A NOTE TO OUR iOS USERS:
You can view and edit your transcriptions from the iOS app in Just Press Record for Mac. The Mac app does not generate transcriptions itself.

iCLOUD OR LOCAL STORAGE
Choose to save your recordings in a local folder on your Mac or in iCloud Drive for instant access from your other devices.
See everything at a glance including the current input device and a level meter so you can start recording straight away. The Just Press Record icon in the Menu Bar at the top of the screen is ideal for when you need to kick off a recording quickly. We've also added support for the Touch Bar on the new MacBook Pro.
Use your Mac's built-in microphone or an external audio interface or USB microphone. Record in stereo or mono - ideal for voice recordings.
Press and hold the M key during a recording and your microphone will be silenced. As soon as you release the M key your mic will be live again. Perfect for when you need to cough!
UNLIMITED RECORDING TIME
With unlimited recording time you can record just about anything, so long as you have enough storage on your Mac or iCloud!
Files are saved by date and time and can be easily renamed and arranged in Finder so you can locate your files easily.
Recordings can be saved to uncompressed AIFF or WAV files for maximum quality or to iTunes AAC format to save space.
You can now edit iOS transcriptions on your Mac. Changes will automatically sync back to iOS via iCloud Drive.
We've also made some improvements to recording on the Mac:
* Added support for recording to WAV files.
* Support for higher sample rates and bit depths.
* Just Press Record will now use the currently configured hardware sample rate and bit depth when recording to AIFF and WAV files.
Just Press Record will never interrupt you to ask for a review - we don’t like being interrupted either! But, App Store ratings and reviews are important, so if you are enjoying Just Press Record and have a spare minute, we’d be delighted if you could leave a rating or review on the App Store. Thanks!
Ratings and Reviews
MacOS Version is minimally useful - and poorly described / misleading
I just started using Just Press Record for iOS and like it for quick voice notes and easy transcription, but the Mac version is limited and poorly - even misleadingly - described.
The current release description says it doesn’t generated transcripts itself, but “You can view your transcripts from your iOS app in Just Press Record for Mac”.
A developer reply to a review question says transcript generation is currently iOS only because that’s the only api Apple currently supports, but that they’re eager to add Mac support if/when Apple adds MacOS support. Fair enough.
But “You can view your transcripts from your iOS app in Just Press Record for Mac” is misleading. All I can see its **The first 60 or so characters in a non-scrolling text area below the playback control ** shown in a non-scrolling text box below the recording control! That’s not “viewing the transcript” and greatly reduces the value of the Mac for me. That’s why I decided to buy the app rather than play the iCloud audio using iTunes or Quicktime.
If that were added as a fix, I’d bump my rating to three (or maybe four) stars.
The text area where the transcription appears should definitely be scrollable. If you drop us an email (Help Menu > Contact Us) we will try to help you.
iOS version is good, this one is almost useless
I liked the iOS app so I bought this one too, mainly so that I could browse/read the transcriptions I’ve recorded and listen to the audio. The Mac version does that…barely. Instead of giving you any kind of built-in UI, you’re dumped to a file browser window where you can double-click on a file to open up a small window with the transcription. I’d expect something a lot more full-featured, especially if you’re going to charge people $5 for the Mac version as well as the iOS one. For this little functionality, you should give it away for free and just advertise that the iOS version has a Mac utility for (barely) playing your recordings and reading transcriptions.
Apparently It’s Completely Useless!
I bought this app a few months back and it worked simply and perfectly, transcribing everything very accurately.
Now it records sound, but 0% of the time transcribes even a single word. It just comes back with an error that says ‘Transcript Error. An unknown error has occurred while trying to transcribe this recording.’ This is happening through all my iOS devices (which are perfectly maintained, updated and dialed in): iPhone 8+, iPhone 6S, iPad Mini 4, iPad 2.
I sent a help message to the developers. They said I would receive a reply within 24 hours. Never heard anything. What’s the deal here?
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
