With amazing new innovative features, KeyPlay is more than just a great sounding piano app. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned pro, playing the keyboard is about to get a whole lot more exciting!
With Scale Snap enabled, you’ll never play the wrong note again. Just pick a scale, and all your out of scale notes will be snapped to a note that’s in scale.
Musos: Hitting the right keys on a small touchscreen can be pretty hard. That's why we created Scale Snap - playing the right notes just got a whole lot easier!
Everyone: Maybe you don’t even know what a scale is - that’s OK! With Scale Snap, any note that sounds wrong will be ‘snapped’ to a note that sounds better. Now you can play like a pro too.
With KeyPlay, you can control GarageBand instruments, right from your device - no wires needed! The massive selection of studio quality instruments available in GarageBand is now right at your fingertips.
Wireless Play also works with any other MIDI compatible software (Mac only) via CoreMidi. CoreMidi is inbuilt into OSX, so you won’t need any extra software or programs installed on your Mac for it to work.

What's New in Version 1.1
Minor update: App now uses much less memory when backgrounded.
Great, needs more attention!
This app is so great it inspired me to write a review. If you are interested in creating melodies but are not very familiar with the correct notes to play in certain scales (like me), Keyplay is not only a great way to experiment with scales and chords but an easy way to learn them as well. The reason for this is because of the scale snap feature, which only allows you to play keys of a certain scale you set it to. I find this very useful because the certain notes of the scale that is selected are highlighted, so you can actually see what notes are being played. My only suggestion is to have the ability to adjust the amount of keys being viewed on the device (only 1 octave can be seen), but besides that a perfect app, highly recommended.
Instead of buying a $200 midi keyboard, I bought this, and I am so much more satisfied. If all you want to do is get a melody into midi format on your DAW, this is the app for you. Requires no server software like some of these other apps, and it's ONLY 99¢. This experience has blown me away. It works great on a computer-created network, and the latency is imperceptible.
I had a bit of trouble getting it to start working. I had to close the app (double tap home key and click the minus sign) and reopen it before it showed up in Audio Midi setup. To the devs: you might want to put controls on the wifi-connection feature instead of having it be automatic. But I ain't complaining; this is an amazing deal for 99¢. Thank you for this app!
Great app that needs an update
This is a wonderful little app. I use it as a midi controller for Garageband running on my macbook. The latency is barely noticeable and nothing I can't easily compensate for.
This app needs to be updated for iPhone 5's display (which would allow you to play 15 or 16 piano keys instead of the current 14). Also, the larger keyboard view where you select the range you will use becomes distorted when I change it on my iPhone. (It looks like an accordion collapsing). This is either a bug or a very poor design choice. It would also be nice to add a midi output option for vibrato when you shake the phone (for use with virtual string instruments), but that would be icing on the cake.
Overall, this app is well worth the price.
