Not all the features of a Kindle, but pretty good

I have this app on both the Mac and iPad and while it doesn’t have 100% of the functionality of an actual Kindle, it does everything I need. I can open and read my books and documents without issue. The two features that are missing that I’d like are the useof foreign language dictionaries and the ability to have the app read books that are just text. Occasionally, I like to read French literature in French because, well, it’s usually better in French. My French is a little rusty, so I bought a French to English dictionary. On the Kindle, if there is a word I don’t know, I can just touch on that word and instantly get the definition from my French to English dictionary. It happens automatically. With the Kindle App, however, there’s a lot of hassle and the need to download a Google dictionary of some kind. The other thing I like about the original Kindle is the ability to have it read documents that are just text. Sure, the voice is a bit robotic but sometimes it’s very practical.

User Unfriendly

This version is terrible! On my Ipad mini I can’t switch from one book to another in my library. It’s taken me 20 minutes, multiple times, to just get to the book I’ve been reading on another device. I quit the app, turn off my device, try to exit the book etc. The app works better on my MacBook however it can’t sync from the place I’d left off in my book on my mini. And my mini can’t sync to my laptop. Also in looking up a word in the dictionary on my laptop the app will change me to 108 pages backward in the book. This has happened multiple times.

The prior version was much, much better. I’d love to go back to that one! Could someone please explain as to why this is not possible. I’m tired of “new and improved" crappy apps.

Useful and frustrating

duvid

FIne for reading, but several buggy things can become quite annoying. The fact that it is useful and relatively easy to learn gets compromised by it’s too often failure to work the way it is designed. My main frustration is how it jumps when I try to either change pages, highlight a passage or copy a passage. When I am studying, I do not want the process of marking or copying to disrupt my attention and thoughts. Also lately trying to scroll down my hightlights or notes, it stops and won’t go further. I aparently have not lost the notes because eventually I can get to them, but again it disrupts my work flow.
