Description

Lightning Talk Timer is a (not-so-easy-to-use) countdown timer mainly for "lightning talk" type short presentations. This app displays numbers in very large text on your iOS device so everyone around you can see the time remaining.

It also supports count-up after counting down to 0.

# Please visit http://lightningtalktimer.com for instructions--it won't take much time at all. Otherwise this app may be useless to you.

Best app I've seen in the space so far, but still needs some improvements -- detailed below in order of priority. I'm a conference organizer and would gladly pay for this app with some of these improvements included.

1. Needs to be able to start counting up once the timer has reached zero. Keep the flashing screen, but speakers need to be able to see how far over time they're going.

2. Needs to be an option to make the seconds display as large as the minutes. I understand the original intent to focus on JUST the minutes but some speakers will be far away, not notice the small seconds counting down in the corner, and get flustered thinking that the timer isn't running at all b/c all the see is a large static (minutes) number. further, it gets momentarily confusing at 0:59 when all of a sudden the enormous number, which used to indicate minutes, is now indicating seconds.

2. Wish I could make the background start flashing ahead of :00 -- sometimes a mere color change isn't enough to get the speaker's attention!

3. Wish there was a way to change colors. What if I want blue instead?

I use this fairly regularly and it works well. There are few features, however, that keep me from giving it a 5 star review.

1) I don’t use the app very often, but when I do, I always forget if the total talk time remaining is the time on the left (it is), or if it is the sum of each of the times listed. I think it should be much clearer when you are setting up the times to distinguish between these things. I think a better way to display it would be, when setting up the timings of a talk to clearly distinguish between:
a) the total talk time
b) when the warning transition points are.

2) When it gets to the final red countdown (e.g., the last minute), the pause button on the upper right is almost invisible and it is hard to see (and thus hard to know how to pause and then stop a talk that ended a bit early). It would be useful to show the pause button in a way that is a bit more visible.

Still needs more work...

There's no in-app support that I can find, and I can't figure out how to swap the order of the color timers for the different periods -- red is where green should be, and vice-versa.

When you try to go to the web page for support for the app, whether on an iOS device or otherwise, you're basically told to "Get Chrome". Obviously, that's a non-solution.

The entire point of an app like this is making sure that the speakers really know how much time they have left, and the colors in the app are crucial to being able to accurately portray that information. So, if they're in the wrong order and you can't change the order, you've got a problem.

It would also be nice to have a version with a black background display and colored numbers.

This app has the potential to be the standard setter in this space, but it needs more work and the author/publisher needs to provide better support solutions.
