It's motivating!

So far this app has been really great. It motivates me to be more active. Because I am not able to walk with a normal gait, and struggle with a neuro muscular issue, it is some days quite difficult to get enough exercise to burn off calories. Today I am in agony because yesterday I wanted that step calorie bonus 2 days in a row (and I got it!) but I will soldier on haha. I've been using the app for 4-6 weeks now, haven't lost much weight yet (just 2 lbs) but that's likely due to my
neuromuscular thing, because I can't be as active. So I know I have to eat less. This app really helps me pare it down.

The integration with HealthKit has been seamless, too. I'm impressed, and ready to jump to the premium version.
Just one little annoying thing is the multitude of discrepancies in the database of foods. I'm having to research so much stuff to find out which info is correct, as there are so many entries for the same item with different calorie counts, fat percent, grams, ounces etc. Be careful when using it, and scan everything that has a barcode!

My favorite weight loss app

Lose It does not create food fears (I'm looking at you, fooducate!), and it's not riddled with video ads in your newsfeed like My Fitness Pal. I bought the premium membership, and my favorite feature is the personal analysis of my eating patterns and how it impacts my weight loss. Lose It also has the best algorithm of any weight loss app I've used. It adjusts your calorie allotment based on your weight. Even a half pound loss (or gain) results in a minor calorie adjustment. Everything I eat is already in the database, and it's easy make adjustments regarding portion sizes. I can switch between metric and imperial and from volume to weight in most cases. There are reports on changes in eating patterns, tons of educational articles available, and the option to participate in challenges. Another feature of the premium membership that I enjoy is the ability enter tomorrow's meals, track weight, waist size and daily sodium intake. This app is flexible, personal and engaging. I look forward to using Lose It every day!

Watch the database!

Great app that makes counting calories so easy. After years of having to do my own accounting of calories eaten and burned, this app almost makes it fun. The database is huge, has many name brands and restaurant menus, and when you can't find the food item by name you can scan a barcode and up it pops. So convenient. My main frustration is that the database can change on you, literally overnight. A 5 oz. glass of white wine was 121 calories for months on end, then one day the same entry was 450 calories??? I don't think so. So don't just blindly enter your regular foods assuming the right number of calories will pop up. Check the numbers. Also, the app is not always user friendly. I found that it was easier to learn the options from the website, and then try to find them on the app. The best thing? My heart rate monitor syncs with the app so my workouts are automatically entered, and the website and app update each other almost immediately.
