Description

At Medium, we are creating a network for writing that enables people to make an impression on others. To make them think or change their minds. To teach them something or connect emotionally. Where the quality of the idea matters, not the author’s qualifications. A place where conversation pushes ideas forward and words still matter.

Read: The best reads tailored just for you. You'll find a curated blend of human and algorithmically curated stories ensures you always have something to dive into.

Write: Switch from your phone to your tablet to your computer, seamlessly. Write wherever inspiration strikes.

React: Highlight a particular passage that speaks to you, or recommend it to your followers. Join the conversation by writing your own response to a story that moved you.

What's New in Version 2.27.3874

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
From: FStone@medium.com
To: ReleaseNotesTeam@medium.com

Hello team.

Well, it looks like “popular demand” wants the “humorous” release notes back.

I acknowledge the tensions we had around that approach to updates, and it takes a big man to admit where he’s wrong.

So in the spirit of moving forward, and in being organizationally bound to oversee this…thing, I’d like to start fresh and deliver scalably funny release notes that really move the needle.

I just got the list of updates from product. As I mentioned, I’m not coming at this cold. Two years in my college’s improv troupe “Schticks and Stones” has prepared me pretty, pretty well:

** Fixed a crash that was affecting some users when on a publication page, the home page, or a profile page
I think we can somehow work a reference to the Dave Matthews song “Crash Into Me” here - “DMB might like to crash, but we don’t want you to. So take that helmet off…” Something in there feels good.

** Fixed an issue where you would not be able to open a story embed that was in a response below a post
Not sure what this fix is, but there’s something to the concept “embed” - “strange bugs make for strange embed-fellows?”
Actually, go with “embed-persons.”

** Fixed an issue where you would not be able to login with email directly after logging out
Logs make me think of trees and trees make me think of lumberjacks. “TIMBER! No more logging problems, so put away your axes” lol

** Added iOS support bot
Did you see “I, Robot” with Will Smith? Great film. Pound for pound, that guy matches up with anyone out there, and might even be better than Cruise. Anyway, there’s something in there.

** Fixed an issue where you could not recommend a response from your email if you had the app installed
For this I’m feeling “mailer-daemon” works. Like “Fire your exorcist! Those nasty mailer-daemons won’t be stealing your email recommends any longer!”

** Added ability to clear disk caches to free up space on your device
This has gotta be “cache rules everything around me” WU TANG!

** Highlights no longer go beyond the bounds of the text on headers
I’m out of time, so I’ll just let you riff on this one. I trust you got it.

Oh and if you could get me your OKRs and KPIs by EOW that would be great.

Medium is the Message

Medium is a useful tool which lets me read articles and information with ease. I appreciate its simple layout and navigation.
One quirk: Sometimes while in the Medium app, I will click on a link to another Medium article (from inside of an article on Medium written by Buffer, for example) but this other Medium article opens in the web browser (Safari - where I'm not signed-in to Medium) instead of opening in the Medium app (where I am signed-in). In that case, I would have expected the article to open in the Medium app.

Bad release notes & prompts for notifications

I like the general layout of the app and, of course, the articles. I really don't like the stupid release notes with every update! I have to hunt down what actually changed and a user shouldn't have to do that. 2 stars taken off for that.

I also took off 1 more star because the app ALWAYS asks me to turn on notifications whenever I launch it. I already said 'later' so why does it keep asking? Worse, there's no switch in Settings to turn off the prompt. That's simply poor app development and program management.

Medium is a great conversation

I like Medium because I know I can find something there I'm not seeing in other media. Today, I ran into some incredibly relevant articles for my current work that really got my creative thoughts moving along. I like that I don't know what generation a writer is from. I like the openness I see here. It's a place I might put my book in 4 min reads. :)
