Customer Reviews

I want so badly to love it, but...

In terms of features, this app rocks.. but that's about where it ends. Now, I use this app as my primary iPad browser and lately have been giving it a shot on my phone, but in recent experience it has been slow as can be with everything from loading pages, to conducting searches (particularly if you use a custom engine like Startpage), to rendering text. Additionally, the app has crashed multiple times on me in the last couple of weeks alone including once in the middle of an online purchase.

Having said that, I have found these (repeated) experiences incredibly disappointing because I really love the overall design of the app including the extensions and customizable search engine menu. Also, now that Apple has leveled the playing field for browser scripts between between its own browser (Safari) and those of third-party developers, this is inexcusable. My experiences with the functionality of the Mercury Pro browser as of late have been nothing short of piss-poor and I now find myself reeling in anticipation for Mozilla's release of Firefox for iOS. If you are looking for a Safari alternative, try the free version of Mercury if you like. If my experience changes, I'll gladly edit this review, but for now I urge any onlooker not to waste their money.

Glad to see the old fullscreen re-added. Here's another suggestion...

the BAD thing that was better in the previous version:
the fullscreen buttons are huge, hideous, and opaque.
I would be much happier if they were restored to their old versions, or if the would hide themselves until you tapped near the bottom of the screen.

the good things that have happened since 5.6:
I'm really glad to see the fullscreen mode re-implemented. I'm really satisfied, and glad that I don't have to stay on version 8.5 forever. I didn't like the new fullscreen mode ( the buttons still need fixing though).

I just have one more old feature I'd like re-added - Mercury 3 had an option to hide the status bar at the top of the screen, whether in fullscreen or not. I would be thrilled if this could be re-added as well, or added to fullscreen options or as a gesture somehow. I'd also like a way to choose what folder things get downloaded into.

While occasionally an update breaks something, it is usually corrected and made better than it was originally with the next update. The development team listens to people's thoughts, something increasingly rare in mobile app development.

Overall an awesome experience. While I liked some features that have been gone for 2-3 years, this is still an awesome program.

I wish a fullscreen button would be added back to the bottom bar, too, though.

It's become a chronic crash app....

Thankfully they've removed the repeated request to rate, but now it's become very unstable. When I'm in Mercury and switch to another app then back to Mercury, the browser will be frozen. After several seconds, the app will crash. After I reopen it works fine until I switch to another app then the process repeats. It does it every single time no matter which app I switch to or how many tabs I have open. Usable but a once 5star "essential" app has now become at best a 2 star app. I think it's time to consider my purchase a waste of money and move to Dolphin. What a shame such a great app has fallen to such levels and no one seems to care on their end.

Update: Still no reply from the developer. Still no update to correct the issues users are facing. I've given up. Mercury has been removed from my devices. Going back to Safari until a replacement is found. No reason for such poor customer service especially for a pay app.
