Mind is a simple, beautiful meditation timer. Drag the slider to the number of minutes you want to focus, tap and go. There are no settings (Mind automatically assumes the last timer you set as the default for your next run), and no messy UI elements.
I made this for myself because I wasn't satisfied with the choices I had in the App Store, and decided to make it available for free. If you like it, feel free to recommend it to your friends. Thank you.
What's New in Version 1.2
- Added support for iPhone 5
- Upgraded codebase to iOS 6
Didn't work with phone locked
This is exactly the kind of simple timer I was looking for! I tested it a couple times (ran it for 1 minute) to see what the ending chime would sound like. Easy to operate, and pleasant simple sounds. But this morning I set it for 20 minutes, locked my phone, and sat to meditate. 30 minutes later, I noticed the chime had not sounded, and the timer was still "on." I left it going, went to the home screen, and locked my phone. After another half hour, I opened the app again to find that my 20-minute timer was still running! I was so sad - I really wanted to LOVE this app.
Next time, I will try leaving my phone unlocked to see if this changes how the timer functions, but I'm rather disappointed that it can't run while locked. My phone's battery usually runs very low by the end of the day, and I'd like not to make it any worse!
Aesthetically pleasing, but very flawed.
The aesthetics of this app are top notch. Its minimalistic and beautifully designed, the button layout is simple and intuitive and you can quickly and accurately adjust the amount of time you want to meditate.
However, there are a few serious flaws to the app. Mind doesn't allow for a warm up or cool down period. You basically tap to start and a subtle ratcheting sound begins the meditation period. This doesn't allow the meditator to get in position and settle into the posture.
The app also lacks a countdown timer. You set the time and the app either reads the full meditation time or finished, nothing in between. This is completely impractical when I want to meditate for an unspecified period but would like a reference for how long I meditated.
I'm using the app on an iphone 4 and Mind also doesn't chime if the phone is silenced, it only vibrates. This is a serious flaw that none of the other meditation apps I've used has. The chime should be considered an alarm that sounds even if the phone is silenced. There have also been more than a few instances where I tap to start but the finish chime never sounds. Its made me late on two occasions where I fell into deep meditation when I just wanted a quick 20 meditation to start my day.
Thank you. Set the length of time you want to meditate and a lovely chime/gong sounds at the end. Simple and exactly what I wanted. I found a glowing review of this app when I googled "best meditation timer" and fortunately took the time to search it out in the itunes store rather than settling for one of the apps that showed in my initial search! Hope this app moves up in the itunes search algorithm soon.
