Great but watch out for the ads
This has been a great source for keeping up on news from around the state. Only complaint is that recently ads start playing with sound unexpectedly. Not a welcome new feature when reading news in a quiet public environment.
I only care to see what is happening in Saginaw. I don’t like having to click on Saginaw News button every time I pull the app up so I don’t have to get through all the other stories just to see the Saginaw stories.
It didn’t always use to be like this.
Definitely not the whole Mlive experience.
First off, there doesn't seem to be a way to truly get only news from one edition. Selecting the Grand Rapids Press still yields top stories from Kalamazoo, Jackson, Saginaw, etc. instead of just local news. This is annoying.
Also, several times, I have run across what appear to be abstracts of articles and not the full article; sometimes cutting off mid-sentence. Comments on the articles not being part of the app is unfortunate, but can't you at least make sure the whole article is accessible? Google maps imbedded in articles make it nearly impossible to scroll through without clicking on them. Please consider shrinking the size of the maps for traffic stories, etc so it is easier to scroll past them.
Next, the ad delivery is getting more intrusive and annoying. I understand the need for ad support for a free app, but these ads are far more intrusive than most other free apps. Maybe it is just the iPod Touch that has this problem. The ads appear to float feathered and it is very distracting to the point where I have closed the app at some points.
Finally, the interface really could use more work. It should be easier to search for stories, separate by date, and filter by subject to get relevant and current information. Updating the news feed lags. It's hard to get a full days' worth of news if you are only able to check once or twice daily because only a handful of articles appear at a time.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
