With MyScript© Calculator, perform mathematical operations naturally using your handwriting.
** The Free handwriting calculator for your iPhone or iPad **
Easy, simple and intuitive, just write the mathematical expression on the screen then let MyScript technology perform its magic converting symbols and numbers to digital text and delivering the result in real time.
Get the same experience as writing on paper with the advantages of a digital device (scratch-outs, results in real time, etc.).
Solve mathematical equations by hand without actually having to crunch the numbers yourself.
BENEFITS AND FEATURES
- Write and calculate mathematical expressions in an intuitive and natural way with no keyboard
- Scratch-out gestures to easily delete symbols and numbers
- Undo/redo feature
- Copy your results to the clipboard or export them to other apps.
POWERPACK (available with an in-app purchase)
- Immediate Reuse: Continue a long operation or use your result in a new calculation.

What's New in Version 1.3.2
New in version 1.3.2:
- iOS 9 support
- Jot down a quick calculation or check the history while you're using another app. Only available on iPads compatible with iOS 9 multitasking features.
Good for creating (and solving) more complex equations
First, let's be clear: If you're just looking for a simple calculator to do arithmetic (i.e., addition, subtraction, division), intermediate mathematics (e.g., exponents, roots, etc), or even basic trigonometry (e.g., sin, cos, etc) then this calculator may well be more of a frustrating gimmick than a useful tool. If you can easily accomplish your calculations on a traditional calculator, there are better apps that mimic that experience.
So when does MyScript Calculator come in? For solving more complex equations that are difficult or cumbersome to type into a normal calculator, or which are easy to enter but difficult to follow the work, or when you want to share the results by e.g. exporting your work as well-structured visual equations (e.g., to embed into homework, a paper, or a presentation). If that’s what you need, this is an exceptionally useful app.
If you’re less interested in the automatic attempts to solve your equations and more interested in the ability to simply draft equations, you should check out MyScript MathPad, by the same developer. It uses the same engine for translating writing into equations, but instead of making any effort to solve the equations, it simply provides a blank canvas for creating them. And, as an especially useful feature, it allows those equations to be exported as TeX (a markup language for expressing mathematical notation), which is something that Calculator does not support.
Great idea, good execution
To preface, I used this app on an iPad running iOS 9.2.1, and used version 1.3.2. This tool is essentially a calculator that allows you to write your input, as opposed to pressing buttons, and, for the most part, it does that pretty well. It’s about as powerful as a $10 calculator, so it’s unable to work through more complex math algebraic equations, however, what it does do, it does well. It’s able to decipher one’s handwriting much better than I expected, so, with that being said, a stylus is not required, but recommended to improve the experience with the application. One issue I have with the application, however, would be the erasing mechanic. To erase, you draw a line through the things you want removed, however, that can sometimes be unclear, and the application may have trouble deciding if you wanted to turn a one into a plus sign, or get rid of it altogether, for example. This can be remedied with a forgiving undo button, so that isn’t a deal breaker at all. In summation, this app is a great tool, and an interesting take on the standard calculator, but it’s not made for everyone, as some would prefer the standard button-based input.
Not bait and switch, but feels like it
Ok, to explain my title: they give you the power pack as a trial. They do mention that the power pack is a paid add-on in their description, so it's not really a bait and switch. They just don't make it extremely clear. They shud mention that the power pack is on temporarily. Some people think that as soon as you rate the app, it goes away. Well, Ian rating the app. Let's see. By the way, i did lose the power pack before doing this review. I simply deleted the app and redownloaded it. So, this is a great tool in some areas, but might not be enough in other areas. Dealing with fractions is tricky. I do this: (1/2)x7= the parentheses makes sure that it is 1 divided by 2 first if there is anything before the 1.
****Update: I rated the app and still have the power pack. I think it's a time trial. I downloaded it a second time and regained the power pack.
