This is the official National Park Service app for exploring parks and trails in the Chesapeake Bay region – including the Star-Spangled Banner National Historic Trail, Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail, Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail, Chesapeake Bay Gateways and Watertrails Network, and national and state parks.
The Chesapeake Explorer app helps you discover the places where you can experience the Bay region’s beauty, history, and heritage firsthand. Find and visit places by activity, trail name, or type of site. Take a suggested tour, build your own tour, tag favorites, share photos of your visit or save places for visiting later. The app includes over 400 sites across six states.
Plan Your Visit – plan your visit to one or several of more than 400 parks and historic sites in the Chesapeake –find locations, hours of operation, fees, and other helpful information. Learn the history of some these natural areas and historic places.
Maps – enable geo-location to find sites nearby, zoom in and out, and finger-scroll to better view sites. Generate driving directions on demand to any site in the app.

Cool app, fun way to discover sites around the Chesapeake Bay. I moved to the DC region for work 4 years ago and in the last couple years I've been wanting to discover more of the local history and attractions outside of the city.
While this app isn't the be-all end-all (and really, what app is) it has served as a starting point for me and family to create some mini weekend adventures. Love the northern neck, and we never would have explored it if we hadn't downloaded this app. However, some of the site information needs to be updated, hope the NPS will keep working in this.
Great, very easy to use!
I'm using the Smith trail to plan a sailing trip around the Southern Bay, and love how this app makes it so easy to find information about various points if interest. I would love to see more information about marinas/lodging for water travelers, or maybe that should be its own app. Overall, great app!
Amazing app for the Chesapeake bay region
I just downloading this app and was pleasantly surprised as to how much information it contained. I browsed through several links and all seem to be right on. Can't wait to utilize this..
