Does not work while offline...
OpenSignal is a good app, but it is only useful in places where people have submitted usage reports. Most rural areas and small towns are completely uncovered.
Another major issue is that it only works when you are online. Oftentimes, the times when you are most interested in checking on where you can find coverage is when you are located someplace where you have none. In these situations, OpenSignal is of no help at all.
The iOS app 'Coverage?' is a great compliment to crowd-sourced apps like OpenSignal. It provides less detailed maps based upon what the carriers report, but it covers rural areas and the maps are local to your device and work offline.
These two apps work great in combination with each other.

The About tab says there is a Voice Indicator in the Dashboard tab, but I don't see anything. All the Dashboard has is Data indicator, a compass needle ponying to the closest tower, a map of where the towers are, a wifi indicator and map, and a bubble saying what carrier you're connected to. No voice indicator.
Also, on the coverage tab, the comparisons between networks only compares data speeds and reliability. There is no comparisons for voice coverage.
Lastly, on the map of the towers, there is no way to see towers from other carriers. So you can't make a carrier decision based on which carrier has the most towers in your area. You can only compare based on the color coded network map in the coverage tab. But that map doesn't show where the towers are.
I have read some of the other reviews and have not experienced the same results. I live in a somewhat rural part of Colorado, yet the app show me locations of my AT&T towers, compass accurately points to locations and I see tower placement and the coverage up and down our valley corridor.
The speed test appears dead on.
I have found this app extremely reliable and helpful.
