Good not great
Pros: I much prefer the interface over chrome and safari, especially on full screen mode. It really opens up the page only having the two translucent buttons on the bottom, much better than Chromes "scroll up" full screen mode. Allows for quicker navigation, and quick cancellation of loading, a big issue I find with other browsers. It's also great to have the data compression, even if I already have Onavo installed. It does seem to be almost as fast as Safari, even without Nitro. I also really like that it keeps other tabs loaded, speeds up multitasking.
Cons: Single touch zoom can be tricky to use (although it does come in handy of you click the wrong link). Often you can't zoom horizontally in tables, such as those in Wikipedia. In addition, .gif's and some other images don't load. It's annoying that .pdf's aren't supported, and open in Safari. A small inconvenience is found that you manually have to press the 'search' button on pages, rather than that on your keyboard.
Overall I really like it and find it easy to use, but there's still room for improvement.
Certainly fast but..
I've been using mini Opera for several months. I'm slow to write reviews.
I give it 4 stars because it really is a remarkably faster browser for surfing. In particular, most any use of the 'back' button is going to have a nearly instantaneous response (thank you cache!)
Where it needs work is better quality rendering of popular websites. In general, most websites will render with opera just fine - really MOST are fine. Still, there are websites which will only render acceptably with safari or chrome. In some instances, it's because the website is specifically serving up pages intended for safari or chrome, and they overlooked other browser use cases.
One suggestion for the opera crew would be an option to relaunch the curent page with safari. When a user encounters those troublesome pages, the button would be a quick workaround.
I was amazed at these things:
- Still supports my 2nd gen iPod Touch
- Extremely fast, Safari loads FB in like 10 minutes and still leaves out buttons when it's done, while Opera loads it in about 3 seconds with easy access to the features I need, no extra make-the-webpage-cool stuff.
- Great features, and easy access to the them
- Looks cool too
I don't understand why you people with iPhone 5s are upset at the basic pages. Why would you need them to look nice and load slowly instead of being easily used and FAST? If you want the webpages with ads and whatever, go download Chrome. But people like us who CAN'T download Chrome are very happy with this.
Please keep the support up for this iPod. Despite what Apple thinks, 4 years old is not ancient.
