"OsiriX HD" is a DICOM software for iOS: DICOM is the digital standard for storing and transferring medical images. OsiriX HD allows downloading and manipulating series of images directly on your iOS device. OsiriX HD is capable of displaying images from all imaging modalities (ultrasound, CT scanner, MRI, PET, etc.) in their native standard DICOM format used by the medical/scientific industry. OsiriX HD is a fully DICOM-compliant listener that can receive images from any DICOM imaging device through WiFi/3G networks. It supports these DICOM Network protocols: C-STORE SCP, C-MOVE SCU, C-FIND SCU, C-GET SCU, WADO.

This iOS app is designed to work seamlessly with any DICOM compatible software, including PACS, medical workstations, acquisition modalities. It also supports communications through the iOS built-in VPN for secure and encrypted connections.

OsiriX HD provides fast interactive image manipulation tools such as zoom, pan, cine and contrast adjustment of images through the multipoint touch screen interface.

The convenience of being able to access DICOM images remotely added to the fact that images can be previewed on the iPhone/iPad screen in a very effective and convenient way offers a new perspective for mobile teleradiology.

This iOS application can also be used as a helper application for other iOS applications: it allows to read DICOM datasets received by emails or in Safari, or to visualize DICOM datasets stored in DropBox folder, for example. It also supports a built-in URL scheme protocol (osirix://) for easy integration in RIS, HIS, or PACS environment.

Good, but urgently need annotations!

I would really use this app seriously if I could see fields like 'series description' and 'comments' in both the database and the image views. Also the image view needs the pulse sequence, exam no, date, TE/TR/FA/IR/rBW/FOV...or as for the Mac version, customizable DICOM fields. On the iPad there is plenty of space for 10-20 optional DICOM fields in the image view w/o cluttering it....please add this so one can know what is what and how the images were acquired.

In the database view, again, please let us select the MR images (in different series) by series desc + comments so that the right series can be selected without random guessing. I find this should be priority over more advanced image processing features, but it would also be nice to be able to lock slice scrolling when viewing two series side by side.

Very Good app but not Great ...Yet

The Good: This app works very well with the Osirix Viewing program on my (2010) Mac Mini. The Query/Retrieve function is quick between the two. Images look very good on the iPad, easy to use.

The Bad: I do get the occasional crash, I can not reproduce it but it can happen very randomly with no rhyme or reason. No certain function seems to cause it, it just happens. Usually 2-3 times / day.

I would very much like the option of completely turning off the contrast control or having it greyed out by default, like the angle controls are.
There are many times I will show someone an x-ray and if I don't remember to disable the contrast right away it will go completely white or black. I usually take a series of 4 x-rays and I have to disable contrast when I switch to the next x-ray or risk it accidentally going full black and having to "play" with the image to get it back to normal.

If there was also a way to hide the controls(top and bottom menu) while in the viewer or enter a "full-screen" mode then this app would definitely earn the 5 stars it is trying to receive.

I am using an iPad2 16GB 3G
