FIX THE BLANK ALBUM COVER!!!
I love Pandora. Hands down. I love being able to listen to music that I don't actually own and it really helps me find out other music that I love. I never would've known that I absolutely love piano music if it wasn't for Pandora. But I do have a few complaints. Mainly the changed the blank album cover to the weird blue and white record/CD thing which I don't like. It used to be this like gray scale thing which I really liked and it didn't show up on my lock screen and now that stupid record does. Boo Pandora. Boo you. Also every once in a while I like a new song. Because really I only listen to one stations and I have literally perfected it. But every once in a while I do thumb up a new song and then instantly I get a slew of songs from that genre. I don't like that at all. I DO NOT need to listen to eight rap songs in a row. Just because I like one rap song does not mean I want to listen to every rap song in existence. The same happens with country music and I want it to stop. Through in a rap song here and there. But what I would really like is if the app would recognize the songs that I never skip and play them more often. There are definitely songs that I thumbed up because they were hip and I liked them for a spell but now I might want to listen to them now and again. I want Pandora to play the songs I love more than the songs I'm cool with. But other than that I put my seal of approval on this app.
Amazing idea, well-executed, but poor user experience.
My gripes aren't dealbreakers:
1. Bookmark function is BURIED in the options. It bothers me a lot when I'm driving. Seems an easy thing to improve from a design standpoint. (Also, bookmarking should significantly increase the weight given to a song in determining my taste.)
2. AGGRESSIVE ads. I switched away from Pandora entirely because of this. I know I'm a free user but they could make it a tad less miserable to be advertised to. It wouldn't take much — even just showing a variety of ads rather than the same one over and over would be an improvement.
3. No option to mark an artist as "never play again." If I know enough of the artist's work to know I don't like them, but Pandora is convinced that they are similar, I have to keep thumbs-downing all songs by that artist.
But, the reason I keep Pandora around is because The Music Genome Project is obviously amazing...genius idea that also works very well in practice. All it takes is some thoughtful fine-tuning by the user.
Despite flaws in user experience, this is still the best music discovery tool I know of, and for that I recommend it to anyone. Find the music that was meant for you that you'd never have known otherwise. I have Pandora to thank for introducing me to my absolute favorite artist, among countless other now-favorites. It has yet to steer me wrong.
Pandora > SiriusXM
I just wanna mention that I pay a 6 month plan of SiriusXM in my vehicle. The complimentary trial that came included suckered me in. I was worried about running up my data listening to Pandora. Anyways I find myself listening to Pandora every time I got into my car. You have the option of listening to similar music, artists, genres and you have the ability to 👍🏼 thumbs up a song so they'll play it more often OR 👎🏼 a song that you dislike and they won't EVER play it again. Personalization with the limited five skips is worth the free cost. I'm thinking of upgrading to Pandora one and cancelling my SiriusXM that I tend to ignore or get frustrated at anyways!
