Paper’s swipe-to-style formatting makes creating checklists and notes faster and more fun than any other app. The photo spotlight tool helps you quickly clarify essential details.

The original iPad version of Paper is a winner of Apple’s App of the Year and is used by millions around the world. The Universal version adds support for iPhone, in addition to text, photos, and sketching, all beautifully designed for touch. Paper is completely free with no in-app purchases.

Missing the old version

Hey there devs,
I don't know how much these words of mine will mean to you, but I really believe you had something great with the older version of the app -- the one that was iPad-only. I am thankful that I can now use the app on an iPhone, as I'd been hoping would be made possible, but it's a bit of a Monkey's Paw scenario. What made Paper so great, aside from its intuitive tools and interface, was its unique design and feel that set it apart from so many other note-taking and to-do apps. It was more than just place for ideas: it was a space for art! The notebooks were a great design, much better than stacks of looseleaf. Perhaps the newer design is better suited for iPhone. However, it is definitely not so for iPad. And even then, I'd prefer the notebook interface over the loose notes on iPhone as well.

That said, if this new version were the first one released by 53, I would give it 4 stars, as it is a good app. Thanks for your work, devs. But please, consider the words of myself and the many others who have similar opinions. Peace.

New version built for iPhone, NOT iPad Pro

This app is designated as "optimized for iPad Pro", but how can that be when all of the developer's PR around the launch of this version 3.0 has emphasized that the changes in the UI were to optimize for iPhone. Now, this app that FiftyThree has hyped as the great new notes app for iPhone is suddenly for iPad Pro? Not hardly. The difference in scale and screen ratio makes that a ridiculous assertion. Then, it is landscape-only on iPad, and portrait-only on iPhone. What? Also, requiring email info for back up, but no sync between devices, unless you have a Microsoft account and transfer your pages to OneNote, seems ridiculous to me.

If you look at the promo images of the app on iPad Pro, they are obviously glossing over the awkwardness of that scale incompatibility, with nonsense abut how great it is for storyboarding to have about 15% of your screen space not practical to use. If this were an app for storyboarding, that might make sense, but...

This app doesn't know what it is for. It used to be a brilliant sketchbook/notebook app. Now it is just a mess. Not recommended. One star, to compensate for my many five-star reviews of past versions.

Almost there

I've been using this app for a long time, and contrary to most everyone else, I like the newest layout. (I've used both) I love being able to see a "birds eye view" of my collections of ideas and sketches.

I bought the pencil by 53 today and I love it! The reason I gave a 4 star rating is that it still feels like the pencil could feel a little bit more reliable, it works about 93% of the time for me. Like it'll be working fine and then randomly not register a brush stroke.

Thank you for all your time and effort into making this app and the pencil! A lot of people don't understand how much work it takes to make an app and some people don't like change, but everything needs to advance and mature. You guys are headed in the right direction!
