Customer Reviews

Thank God the old app is still here

I downloaded Gen2 a week ago. After a week of trying to get close to ease of original app and getting fed up I figured I'd see if this is available to go back to. I had the old app for a year and it was SO easy and simple. I've bought TWO other apps this week trying to get close to what the old Hue app did for free. Deleted both. What a waste of time!!
The old scenes I created don't carry over. The new ones- you get them set up and they revert back to factory settings (bright % and color saturation wheel) every time they are turned off daily. You can only choose colors for lights based on pictures they provide or use my own. So if I want a pink scene I have to find a pink picture in exact shades I want. There's no color wheel like original app had to customize your room scene...
What exactly is the improvement?? You wouldn't even have this product in your house if you didn't want to specifically control the brightness and color scenes in your home... So why take away all of these features?!?! Ridiculous. This is the first review I have ever written! Ever! I'm so frustrated

Edit: Don't see the new app here? They couldn't care less about your iPad. No support for you!

The developers on this app should be fired. This is the most embarrassing, frustrating, counter-intuitive and even harmful app. It's obvious that the geniuses that created this app have never used it before. Creating a scene using a picture is so unhelpful it's as though the Philips team is teasing me. You can't create scenes from scratch, when you try all of your lights come on in completely random colors which you have to correct before you can start. And because you're stuck with this HORRIBLE and INFURIATING application if you want HomeKit integration (the ability to use Siri to control your lights - but only 12 of them) you are forced to put up with it. No updates and they ignore emails and feedback. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND WAITING TO PURCHASE HUE LIGHTS AND GO WITH THEIR COMPETITION which will undoubtedly force Philips to replace this piece of body waste.

Could Be Better

I want an app that will (primarily) let me turn my lights on and off and (optionally) schedule when that happens.
It is possible to do that with this app, but it is confusing and not straightforward at all because of dramatic feature bloat. The whole thing seems to have been designed for DJs managing a nightclub instead of for a dad managing his house.
That being said, once you manage to understand how to use it, it's possible to control your lights and create schedules for them. I do like the ability to "fuzzy" schedule, which lets you have lights on or off at a certain time plus or minus a half hour.
I'd dearly love to see the ability to schedule lights based on sunrise and sunset, which should be simple for the app to determine based on geolocation.
