Better than the last, but some stuff still doesn't work
I've been playing for a few weeks, and some basic stuff still doesn't work. Some of the cars are unlocked by watching videos, and when I click the button to watch nothing happens. Also, I still haven't played a single game of multiplayer. Matchmaking just doesn't work. And you can't invite a friend to play a match with you like the button suggests, the invite just sends them a link to the app store.
But, it's a more interesting version of the game than the original. Although I wish there was a mode without police. I suppose that is just part of the challenge.
New update is not good
Fun game with a few bugs
****This review is no longer accurate with the current version of the game, but it’s here for comparison for the post update review below it:
Quite a fun game to play. A bit frustrating when cop cars literally appear out of nowhere and are unavoidable. Multiplayer has connection issues currently. Have tried playing at all different times of day on a very good wifi and have incredible trouble finding an opponent and then having a not super laggy race. The game also has ads that can be watched to unlock various cars, but these so far, have never played for me, making these “free” cars locked. The cash unlock button for these cars is also bugged, so even trying to buy the cars with real money is impossible. Some of the cars also have a special lock on them, which signifies...something about them? Just a little clarification on why car x has a gold lock vs the regular one would be nice. If it signifies a bonus or change in gameplay, that’d be nice to know.
In recap, a very fun game to play, but it needs a bit more fine tuning to make it really great. I’m looking forward to when that happens.
**********Post update: everything feels slower even though it says overall speed has been increased and updated. Overall handling also feels rather slow to respond, heavy, and downright terrible with most of the vehicles now. Even the tiny slow cars which should be able to turn on a dime can’t handle even the simplest coin paths. Even expensive cars like the princess and purblehini, which should be fast and handle well, are sluggish and can’t make decent turns.
The only vehicle that felt decently viable was the police car, justicia.
On that note, police vehicles seem to have not been changed, as they can literally pull a U-turn in about 5 pixels, while your car takes at least 50. Furthermore, when a police wave spawns it lags the game. The game also occasionally lags as cloud shadows spawn in.
Car upgrades have also been reduced from 4 levels that were noticeable and made a difference in gameplay, to 2 nearly identical levels after the update. Slow and barely less slow.
The previously mentioned car skin bugs have not been addressed at all. Some of the buttons for purchase and videos to unlock free options are still completely not functioning. Specifically with the outrunner car.
The reverse button is rather small and hard to press. I’d definitely prefer the option to switch back to the “press the top of the screen to reverse” controls.
Boost is now only a hazard, as cars can’t handle well enough to properly turn and avoid obstacles at high speed. Since it is also now an all in boost, you can’t use small boosts to get away from the cops. You can now only use all your boost at once, which will probably make you slam into a wall because you will want a split second boost, but now you have to use a full 2-3 second boost. No moderation. It’s only useable if you have a clear, straight path with nothing around or coming your way.
Finally a last note on bugs and the app crashing. Besides the above mentioned lag spike that happens when cloud shadows spawn or when police waves spawn, there is also the danger of the app crashing if you run into a barricade vehicle while you have a shield. While attempting to destroy 36 vehicles using shield, per mission 30, I hit 2 barricade vehicles to add to my total. The app promptly crashed. I then attempted it again and the same thing happened after crashing into 4 barricade vehicles.
Would not recommend this game in its current state.
Thanks for the valuable feedback and we assure you that your points will be taken to heart and addressed in the upcoming update!
