An otherwise great game spoiled by greed

I loved the original PvZ and this game brings back all of the charm an appeal, but a greedy decision by the developers has spoiled it. The in-app purchases are laughably expensive and don’t get you much. For example, you need gems to “purchase” many of the plants. You can either “earn” gems very, very slowly by playing and maybe afford one plant about two-thirds through the game, or you can buy a gem pack. The $5 gem pack gives you enough gems to purchase… wait, no, you can’t purchase a plant with so few gems. More like $10 worth of gems for one premium plant. You could spend $100 in this game and not unlock everything. Whether you pay or play for free you will find that the game’s balance suffers greatly for this model. Some levels or incredibly easy and others are nearly impossible without using a bunch of power-ups. If you spend the money, I’d bet that these levels become easy, and where’s the fun in that? Basically this business model is designed to prey on people with poor impulse control. I would gladly have paid $10 or even $20 for a complete and balanced game. I would probably even make some in-app purchases if they were reasonably priced. But I will not give this developer a dime as long as they continue with this poorly-balanced freemium malarkey,

Love the game! But...

I absolutely love this game! However, with the most recent updates there has been a fluctuation in my gem count. For instance, after playing a Piñata party level and winning 10 gems, I had left the game and noticed that I got 10 extra on top of that. Just recently I made progress in the Wild West and defeated Dr. Zomboss, but came back to the app claiming I hadn't defeated him yet. I had also won 5 gems from leveling to rank 35 for defeating him, which also disappeared but the rank level remained at 35 and the achievement is still listed as complete. I had another instance where I had purchased the Sweet Potato for 75 gems while I had 80, and opened the app up again to find myself with 0. It didn't bother me much at first, but it's certainly happening too often. Hoping this will get fixed soon!

Great Game, Greedy Creators

I have been playing this game from the beginning and absolutely love it. It has great graphics, a real sense of playfulness, and is engaging in the best way. I would give it a 5-star rating except that the game creators are getting shockingly greedy. I'm fine with watching ads for coins and the occasional pop-up ad, but I cannot stand that they're charging real money for plants and other features. I think the newest plants, Toadstool and Strawburst, are amazing. But if they think I'm paying $5 to play with them, they're crazier than Crazy Dave. It makes me legitimately angry that they're charging (and at a premium) for these features. That collection of pixels costs more than a cup of coffee. I'd rather pay for the app than pay for the different parts of the game, which should all be attainable through game-play. The fun of this game, which is considerable, may not be enough to keep me playing much longer if this trend continues.
