Files are gone
I can't really say anything bad about the app. It has been fine. I've had a paid subscription to Pogoplug since 2013. I logged into my account 2 days ago only to find that all but one video and about 20-30 photos out of 86gb worth of photos and videos are gone. My account is paid up through the end of September. I've emailed support and have gotten no response except for an auto response letting me know they've received my email. I'm seeing others are having the same issue. I do see there is still an order page to purchase cloud storage. I strongly recommend you search elsewhere. I did have most, if not nearly all of my files backed up elsewhere, though one of those backup hard drives has apparently gotten a virus from my work computer and I can't access anything. Please always back up to multiple sources and where the computer/web will not have constant access to those files. I thought I was protecting myself well having things backed up to cloud storage, external hard drive and my home computer.
Majority of my files are gone...Forever!
I hadn't accessed my files since end of January 2016. Then on April 9th I started noticing I couldn't retrieve my photos, then pdf's, then just about everything other than the files I touched in January. Support told me "some" users' files were on hard drives that crashed. At first I did not panic, said to myself "They've gotta have backups, right?" Boy was I wrong! They offered a refund of all money I paid them in the past year -- better than no compensation, but I too, had files that I did not back up elsewhere, thinking that the "cloud" would keep them safe for me. Could this happen with other cloud storage services? Maybe! Would I trust Pogoplug again? If your babysitter lost your child, would you use them again? I have learned my lesson!
Gotten steadily worse and cheap isn't a substitute for functional
I've been using this service for a couple years and like other users I've found overtime it has gotten less and less functional. Remote Access only seems to work if I'm at home and on the same network and only then about half the time. When I'm on the road, which is often I've never gotten it to work.
For about the last 3 months nothing on my iPhone or iPad seems to have backed up at all so I've given up and switched to other services.
Yes Pogoplug might be cheap for unlimited storage but no price is worth it for something that just doesn't work.
I'd also note that the Pogoplug backup apps on my iMac wreak havoc with my home network. Even worse when using one of the Pogoplug docking stations. It worked initially but last time I tried after 11 weeks (I'm not kidding) it had backed up only 8% of my 2.5TB hard drive. I could have done better with my old modem. Not having to mention causing endless problems with my home network connection.
Sadly I simply cannot recommend any spend money for this service.
