A good start
I got this the day it was announced and decided to test it out. I had a number of sun and moon cards that I started to scan. One thing I noticed was that it may be hard to scan the cards on certain backgrounds, but once you find a good background, it’s easy from there.
I’m not sure how the cards are scanned but it works well. I mainly had forbidden light cards and when scanning magnemite, it gave me the ultra prism version which is a different type (steel not electric) when I said it wasn’t my card, I was given options of cards it likely was. Different times I scanned I was given different lists (one time the real version was the only option I got and other times it wasn’t.) likely this can be based on lighting and the angle it was scanned at.
I do have two problems though. Though you can go into the separate categories to see what cards you have in that collection, there isn’t a place that just shows all the cards you have. Another is that it’s only the cards released since their sun and moon sets, but that might just be as a start and older card sets will be added in the future.
I think that for a launch it isn’t too bad. I understand why they went with the sun moon base first as it’s the standard of play and newest ones out. I’m sure in time they’ll add previous expansions with updates.
My reasoning for 3 starts is that 1. It’s non transferable. So I have to scan on my iPhone and again on my iPad. My suggestion for this would be for users to just log in with their Pokémon account. I’m sure people use it for things like adding ptcgo codes and stuff.
And my other reason is because it can’t distinguish between a basic card and holo/reverse holo. I mean even the checklists they give have a box for both. Hopefully it’ll be cleaner in the future and with updates and stuff it gets better.
Good not great...
I think the potential of this app is amazing! As of right now though it needs some basic functions added to it. First as others have said it needs the option to check cards that are in the parallel set (reverse holos). Second thing that would be nice is the option to add multiple cards to show how many you have in your collection. For example if I have 4 Pikachu’s I would like to be able to keep adding to that cards totals. Obviously the other addition would be the other expansions but I have a feeling those will be introduced over time. Can’t wait to see where this app goes!!
