Why did we build 'Read by QxMD'?

Health care professionals need to stay up to date on the latest medical research and topic reviews to provide optimal care. Unfortunately, the process of content discovery is broken with research artificially compartmentalized by publishers and hidden behind countless institutional pay walls.

At QxMD, we believe that knowledge translation– the process by which new knowledge is incorporated into clinical practice – is an important and unsolved challenge for our health care system. We hope that ‘Read by QxMD’ will be a part of the solution.

Solves a long standing problem, and does it well

The fact that this program so fluidly obtains papers after having saved my institutional login is phenomenal. The barrier to sitting around and reading papers when I had a free moment has always been setting up a VPN or logging in through my institution’s website and clawing myself to the periodical of interest. Problem solved with this program.

Now I flip through all of the journals relevant to my field and this program automatically obtains the papers as I am thumbing through the abstracts on my iPad. Absolutely phenomenal.

When somebody mentions a paper that I should read or is relevant to the situation at hand, I can pull it up now just as easily as a google search on my phone. Incredible.

I downloaded all the other programs in the App Store that claim to accomplish what this one does, and none of them measure up. Excellent app.

Convenient & useful

I’d been getting emails without access to the full articles after accessing a related app. I finally signed up & allowed access to my institution’s biomedical library. A great way to keep up with interests without multiple logins. It’s terrific! For important articles, you can immediately file the .pdf in your .pdf library. A great way to keep up and very useful, especially in the academic setting.

Very nice way to keep up with your journals...but

Doe t work well when using two factor authentication ( takes forever to offer manual login)

And what is with the daily download limit at a few articles , I wrote my library as requested but there is not much more I can do. It is pretty useless when I can only get a few articles a day

Developer Response

We want to work with you to figure this out and make sure the app is fully functional for you. Can you write to us at and let us know which institution you're affiliated with? We'll work with you to get this fixed.
