Rikai Browser is a full web browser with an automatic Japanese-to-English dictionary. You can browse a website, select a word or Japanese kanji character, and then instantly look up its meaning!
The must-have app for anyone who browses websites in Japanese on their iPad, iPhone & iPod Touch. It’s incredibly simple to use - look up any word in seconds with your fingers.
Tap and hold your finger over any Japanese word or character to select it. Then, tap the “Rikai” button to see the word’s meaning and reading in hiragana (Japanese alphabet). That’s it!
Rikai Browser also remembers your search history, and what pages you saw them on – so, if you want to study the words, you can always go back later.
While we think Rikai Browser is amazing, please note that it does NOT automatically translate Japanese pages into English in this version.
iPod Touch users must be connected to wifi to use Rikai Browser.

Hey, color me 'Doofus', but I can't give this more than 2 stars until I find some instructions as to how it's supposed to work. As a longtime user of the Firefox plugin, I honestly cannot make heads or tails of this.
Auto rikai sounds simple enough, but how do I scan text with my finger on the iPad? All it does is move the page around. Is there some multitouch combination I need to know about here?
I've searched the web and have to find any info on their site or elsewhere that explains how this is used.
Poor UI decisions
This software could be good but it seems like it was lazily implemented. In addition to the difficulty selecting text that others have mentioned, the fatal flaw for me is the inability to get definitions for text that also happens to be a hyperlink. This is an issue that's addressed elegantly in the web version. It's especially frustrating that software that could exists does not. Reading with a dictionary in my lap is still easier. Lame.
perfect for its purpose
Enables me to read Jp websites at a fast enough pace that I can intake more content than other students of Japanese can dream to.
