Good, But Pricey
This basically feels like a digitized version of a standard "special issue" of Rolling Stone ... which is a fine thing. They've added some hyperlinks and the ability to listen to snippets of he songs (not to mention links buy them online), but other than that it is still a very analog experience -- one that could have been achieved with a well-prepared PDF.
Over all, I'd say the contents are interesting and well written, but they just shouldn't be priced at $9.99. With a $3 or even $4 price tag, I'd have been satisfied and probably given this a 3- or 4-star review. But as it is, I feel like I paid WAY too much for the content this app delivers, and 2 stars is all it merits.
This is great if you are new to the Beatles and want to learn more about them. If you are a long time fan who has read some of the books available you will see right through this for what it is. Marketing give me a break they offer an option to buy each song or the whole album. For all that has been written about the beatles the articles are shallow. The comentarys seem edited down and the song descriptions are short. Some of the points of view are more opinion that fact. It seems the editors at R&R did exactly what Apple wanted them to do.
I'm a regular subscriber to Rolling Stone, but this special issue was not included as part of my subscription and I'm really glad RS came up with a nice way to make an iPad App to present the material.
Of course, nothing is really "ultimate", given how many writers have discussed and discussed the music of the Beatles, but it's pretty good anyway!
