What's New in Version 6.3.1
This latest update is all about shoes. No, really. It can be a struggle to know just when it’s time to replace those running sneakers. And it really doesn’t have to be, since there’s an app that knows all about your mileage (cough cough, us). Introducing Shoe Tracker!
How does it work?
-Head on over to settings, and select Shoe Tracking (under the Auto Pause setting in Activity Settings).
-We’ve got a whole bunch of running shoe brands and models pre-loaded in the dropdowns, so chances are yours are there. If you’re more of the hipster running shoe type and it isn’t, just select Other.
-Tell us how many miles you’d like to run in these shoes and we’ll remind you when you’ve hit that. Experts typically recommend replacing shoes after 300-500 miles.
-Whatever model you’ve selected in Settings will automatically be applied to your runs, and the miles will automatically add up. Magic!
-If you haven’t visited Settings yet, you’ll have an opportunity to add or change your shoe model in the post-activity screen after each run. That selection will just be applied to that run, not all future activities, though.
-Perhaps the best part, we’ll send you a push notification when you’ve hit your limit and it’s time to buy some new shoes! No more worn-out soles.
Loved it but not sure anymore...
I have been using run keeper for years and years. I have loved it and recommended it to so many friends/family. But it seems like they keep dropping features that I have loved: while doing the activity you can see not only a pace/mile breakdown but also a breakdown of how you did every minute - you can no longer access that info though after you complete your workout, Theres a lot of variety within each mile. I used to also be able to compare my total distance for each month over at least the last year - I just tried and I think that is only available now with an upgrade. I have also wished for a long time that they would have a "lap" button. I admit I haven't updated my app because of the reviews this last update has been given. I've been looking at other options out there to see if there is something better - I hate to change because I have loved run keeper for so long but there are so many apps out there now that I'm sure I can find one that better fits what I want.
Used to be a great app, now it’s off my phone
Deleted Runkeeper from my iPhone today, after using it for four or five years. It’s become a nagware app. This morning I went to start my run and I had to dismiss a nag screen! It doesn’t respect the volume buttons or the mute button, and apparently doesn’t use the motion co-processors for auto-pause. I was hiking in Pennsylvania up a pretty steep grade to an overlook. Runkeeper kept saying "activity paused," "activity resumed," even though I was hiking the whole time! I turned down the volume and still kept hearing it. Turned on Mute, still kept hearing it. Turned off auto-pause, but failed to notice it was on "pause," so it stayed on pause until I checked my progress 45 min later! I turn off all audio alerts when I’m hiking or running. If I wanted someone to talk to me, I’d have a partner! I hate the constant revision to the UI. You go for a run and you have to take five minutes to figure out where they moved the activity list to! Used to be a great simple app that just timed and mapped my runs. Now it’s a "platform" and it’s just ceaseless nagging! Today they nagged me for a review, so here it is. And we’re done.
Woe to the runner...
...looking for a great all-around running app. Nike recently screwed up their audio controls, a complete deal breaker for me, so I switched back to Runkeeper after almost 1800 miles. Pleased to find they added shoe tracking since it's one of the features that ties me to Nike. However, Runkeeper's implementation is useless. Why no text entry for shoes? Cmon! I run in at least 3 or 4 pairs of shoes at any one time and some of them are the same model. How do I know if it was my higher mileage shoes or the lower mileage shoes? I don't. What about the pair of shoes not listed in their choices? "Other"? Seriously? Plus, just track my miles and let me figure out when to replace my sneakers instead of forcing me to choose from a pre-selected list. I'll keep using Runkeeper until Nike fixes their audio issues, but I'll manually track my runs in Nike too to track the miles on my sneakers. This is so easy to get right Runkeeper -- give your customers control.
