new annoying features
i purchased the original version of this game when i had a new first generation ipad. That version was a total winner and still plays perfectly. I recently downloaded the current version onto a 6th generation iPad. It still seems to play ok but there are some annoying features that don't seem able to be inactivated or modified. For some reason as one is placing a tile on the board it is suddenly magnified until it is in place. Why? There is no reason that is necessary and it seems to make tile placement a little slower and difficult to place accurately. A major dislike in this version for me is the game vs a random opponent. There is no ability to set a time limit for the opponent's next move so while you are waiting and waiting you can't get rid of that game. You can start another random opponent game and have the same thing happen. The only way to get out of these games seems to be to forfeit thus lowering unfairly your online win % while enhancing that of the online opponent who when i have checked may never even have completed again. There should be a way to specify wait times and avoid the need to forfeit. please fix this problem!! I had paid for my first gen game so was able to download rhe ad-free version of this one so can't comment on that aspect of this iteration. I will continue playing the original version of this game. On a first gen iPad it is bug- and ad- free. What a relief. Sometimes less really is more.
Irritating New Feature
Overall I really like this app and have not experienced glitches described by some of the other reviewers. However, there is an irritating new feature that is hard to describe, but I will try. In the past I could place a word on the board without playing it and then go to the "dictionary" to verify spelling. Upon returning to the board my word would still be where I left it. YAY! However, following a recent update, when I place a word (without playing it) go to the dictionary and return to the board the game re-shows the last word played by the computer (with all the tiles falling into place followed by the score) and then all the tiles from my unplayed word rapidly leave the board and return to the tray. This is frustrating because I do not need or care to see a replay of the last word played by the game. Even more so and it's annoying to have to replace my tiles on the board in the exact same place.
New two-letter words not in dictionary
Glad that Scrabble app has been working well for a while now but It seems the official Scrabble dictionary has been updated to include OK and EW and maybe other words, but the iPad app’s dictionary doesn’t reflect this.
I’d also like to point out two changes since the last update: The opponent’s last played word is highlighted, which seems nice until you place your tiles and realize that they are the same color as all previously played tiles. It makes it difficult to test out things not clearly seeing which are yours and which were on the board. I suggest a third color, or once you place new, those become the highlighted tiles.
Also, at some point it became difficult to place tiles along the right edge of the board. Tiles will snap to an unintended square. I often have to barricade the undesired squares in order to get the tile I want on the square I want.
