The most simple and straightforward method to protect a file or a folder. Secret Folder allow you to build a list of file and folders, which you may turn visible or invisible with a simple click. In addition, the application launch can be password-protected. This protection system is based on the principle that no person will attempt to open a file he/she cannot see or knows about.
Secret Folder constitutes the perfect solution if you wish to prevent occasional users of your Mac to view, open, or change files or documents while browsing the contents of your hard drive.

Notes about security
This app uses the standard functionality of the operating system to make folders and files invisible. Programmers and experienced users could gain access to a folder made invisible and there are some applications that let you open invisible files or files contained in a folder made invisible. Whether you need advanced levels for protecting your data, there are other ways. To learn more about Protecting information on removable media open Finder’s Help.

Ratings and Reviews
It only hides the folder or file, but you can still look for it in search, find it by name and see all the contents. Complete waste of money.
when it works it’s good
Like others I’ve had problems with lost hidden documents that can be a PITA to recover. Simpler problems have been easy to fix using their online help guides.
I like the idea of having this program but it is a little bumpy.
It does keep me from digging around and learning more about Unix to keep casual snoops out of my stuff tho.
been using this app for quite awhile (years)…maybe i have an older version, but with the “so-called” bad reviews; i have not had any of those issues at all…sometimes i think bad reviews as such are user/hardware issues and not the app itself…not to say there are issues (secret folder really isn’t that secret…shows up in the applications directory as well as launch pad... but still - password protected……as for any files that may be detrimental to you personally…NEVER keep them on you computer…password protected thumb drive (YES)…as for the secret folder; still use and works just fine…keep stuff from the kids or general public…perfect...(1 time it did freeze up, but was an easy fix with a google search)…just an anomaly of sorts
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
