The Siesta Smart Alarm is more than just another app....it’s the SMARTEST alarm clock around!
Research in the 1970s showed that people are best suited to wake up when alternating between different stages of sleep. This might suggest the body's readiness to wake up.
Even if it's a few minutes before your alarm is set to go off, waking up at this point could help you feel more alert than if you had slept a few extra minutes.
Staying asleep even a few minutes longer might let you fall into a deeper sleep…making waking-up more difficult. I don't know about you, but I'd rather wake up a few minutes earlier – and feel more alert – than to fall back asleep and wake up groggy!
Since the 70s, researchers have marketed complicated and expensive electrodes, wristwatches, and computers to monitor sleep patterns. These can cost consumers literally hundreds of dollars.
Enter the iPhone.
Now we can use the accelerometer in the iPhone or iPodTouch to monitor your tossing and turning early in the morning, just prior to your alarm time. Simply enter how many minutes prior to the alarm you'd be willing to wake-up, set the phone next to you on the bed (or attach the armband) and we'll take care of the rest.
We've found people love putting their iPhone under their pillow and switching it to vibrate.
Don't worry – the alarm will still go off at your designated time even if you don’t move through the night. You can even set your device to vibrate.
The Siesta Smart Alarm also offers:
-a snooze option where you can choose to sleep a little longer – either for a given time period or until you move again.
-an intelligent movement monitor, which doesn't wake you up immediately, but rather checks for more than just a single movement.
Please note that your iPhone/iPod should be plugged in throughout the night, as Siesta must remain open and running throughout the night and this might drain the battery.
The Siesta Smart Alarm is ideal for medical students or residents seeking to take a short nap while on-call overnight. Need to be up at 6:00 AM to pre-round? Use the Siesta Smart Alarm and wake up alert and refreshed.
Still not impressed? The Siesta Smart Alarm also doubles as a movement-triggered alarm for your iPhone. Worried that someone will steal your phone? Simply adjust the window to include your current time, turn on the alarm, and you're protected!

Fixed bug that cause Siesta to limit recording to a few hours.
Comparing sleep phases alarm clocks
I`ve compared the three sleep phases in the Appstore:
Sleep Cycle Alarm Clock ($1)
Siesta smart alarm ($2)
Absalt EasyWakeup ($10)
Siesta smart alarm: 4/10
Sleep Cycle: 7/10
Absalt is a stick-out as far as this characteristic is concerned. It has the function to set everything, including sensitivity, time of fade-in. Sleep Cycle lets publish the statistics in Facebook, though I don`t use this. Siesta smart alarm also has plenty of settings, but they are either unclear or unnecessary, and you can`t use the music from IPod library.
Siesta smart alarm 1/10
Sleep Cycle 8/10
I liked Absalt design. Nicely fashioned and well sorted instruction alone stands high. Apparently the alarm design has been worked out by professionals.
Sleep Cycle has a nice design, but some elements look amateur (i.e. night screen saver).
I`d rather not speak about Siesta smart alarm.
Siesta smart alarm 2/10
Sleep Cycle 8/10
Plenty of functions in Absalt make it a little difficult to use it.
Siesta is extremely uneasy to use, while Sleep Cycle has a much simpler construction.
Siesta smart alarm 10/10
Sleep Cycle 1/10
I began my acquaintance with such alarm clocks from Sleep Cycle. I`ve been used it for about a week and once in the morning I discovered that my mobile phone was bitterly hot. And once I`ve even missed my work because my alarm clock hasn`t gone off. I suppose it`s unacceptable for alarm clocks at all. After all, what`s the good of dozens of functions and nice design, if the alarm clock hasn`t gone off in time? No claims to the other two.
Siesta smart alarm 2/10
Sleep Cycle 5/10
IN one word, buy Absalt, if you can afford it, or Sleep Cycle as an alternative, but then I recommend you to set one more alarm clock apart from the one in your mobile phone.
So I set it all up. The 20 min window doesn't work and i know this because for 3-4 days I've woken up before the alarm on my own. I get hot flashes 3-4 times a night so I'm moving around at LEAST 8 times a night and the entire text file says this:
All 0's. All night. 431 minutes. Every second. Why? I also have sound recording on and there is no Recorded Sound File" This app is confusing.
