What's New in Version 1.0.6
Important update with syncing improvements.
Plagued by syncing problems and data loss
This is a good application, but fails at one of it’s most important jobs - reliable syncing and not losing my data.
I like it’s simple/clean user interface. I like that the user interface is consistent with the phone and that it keeps the focus on basic text notes.
However, I constantly have problems with the OS X app where it stops syncing completely. Even restarting the app doesn’t fix the issue. The only thing I’ve found that fixes it is to use the “Sign Out” feature to sign out of my account and log back in. But when I do this, I lose the changes I’ve made since it starts syncing. (i.e. data loss!)
To make things worse, there is no reliable indication in the app of whether or not your data is in sync, and no way to force a sync. So the only way I know the sync isn’t working is to look at my phone and see that the data isn’t up-to-date. And I know it’s the OS X app, because when I sign out and in, it then starts syncing for a while.
So while I generally love the simplicity of this app, I think that inability to sync reliably and data loss are some pretty serious bugs. I really hope the developers fix this soon.
Great note taking app!
This app is great at what it does:
-Create simple notes.
-Keep your notes synced to all your devices incredibly well.
(you can even run a third party script on Linux systems to sync your notes to Linux Desktops/Servers)
These are truly simple notes. It is all plain text (verified by syncing to a Linux system) No funky XML or proprietary formats like other apps.
The syncing is absolutely fantastic, and works flawlessly and lighting fast in my experience which is syncing to an iPad, iPhone, MacBook, Linux desktop
Tags are a great feature, while still keeping true to the idea of simplicity.
A word to all the other reviewers complaining about formatting and other things, please go use a word processor like Pages or MS Word. This is a simple note taking application. It will stay simple.
Need to be able to resize the tags column.
Without the ability to resize the tags column, this app isn’t as flexible as it should be. There are also some odd quirks with the way the text wraps in the notes field, if I am viewing three columns (including tags). Otherwise, I am happier with SimpleNote as a syncing service that I have been in over a year. Methinks the change in ownership is a good thing. Gives the developer more resources, and they seem to be sticking to core principles. For now, though, if I use SimpleNote on the iOS, then Justnotes is still a better solution on the Mac.
