Sirius issues with offline / download listening
At first I thought everything was great. I rent cars frequently for work and now I could catch up on my Howard Stern shows I missed by downloading them and listening "offline" without using up my data as I drove across the state. As others have mentioned, I started getting frequent stops and disconnect messages even though I thought I was listening offline (vs. live streaming). The real surprise came when I got a over-my-data-limit message from my carrier. I am not sure why, but it seems that even though I thought I was listening to my downloaded content (off of the downloaded content screen), it seems to have been delivering it via streaming. This chewed up 3.2GB of data per my iPhone.
When I do get the app to work with my downloaded shows, it seems to still be using up data. Why?? Just yesterday, I saw my data count for this app go up by 200MB in a short persiod of time. If I am listening offline, that should not be the case. I turned off Cellular Data in the iPhone Settings, but it appears you have to have it ON in order to use the app ("Checking credentials"). Lots of issues with this app that cause me way too much frustration. Seems like they should be easy to fix, especially the offline/download listening. I agree with the others - great idea, POORLY executed.
Won't Display Current Song Info on Lock Screen
In addition to all the other problem noted in these reviews, the recent update failed to fix another long standing problem. When you begin to play the app, the channel will show the Artist and Song currently playing. The app will continue to play after the phone goes to sleep. And eventually the next song or 2 or 3 will play. But if you wake the phone up by touching the home or power buttons, the lock screen will still show the song that started playing when you first loaded the app. It doesn't show what's currently playing. You have to go into the app itself to see this. But even if you do this and see what's currently playing, once you put the phone back to sleep, when you wake it back up, it will still show the first song that started playing when you first loaded the app.
This is also an issue when streaming the app to a bluetooth receiver with a car. The car display only shows what's on the lock screen. So if the lock screen is wrong, the car display will be wrong. I've had an onging email discussion with SXM's tech support over this issue back in May and June of 2013. It's still not fixed. Every other streaming app I have displays the song info properly. Come on SXM, get this fixed!!
This app is the worst thing I pay for. I use it almost every day because I listen to shows on the platform. Almost every single godforsaken time it screws me. I have to re-enter my login info constantly because it says my credentials are invalid. Either it won't play through the use cable, and I have to open iTunes and play a song and then switch back to the app. Sometimes even that won't work and I have to close the app and re open it. Then don't try to rewind or fast forward, unless you want the app to crash and put you back to the beginning of the show. Using it via Bluetooth is a joke, it sputters and pops constantly (none of my other apps do this) if I happen to be streaming a show for longer than an hour, I get a wonderful "inactivity time out" as if I'm not hearing the sound coming out of my phone. When I download an episode of a show, if I switch to another app it jus stops downloading. This is assuming it's available at all, many times I log in and the episodes are just gone. And once I'm actually listening to something and need to pause it, it just keeps playing until I close it from the app switcher. This is the only app I pay a monthly subscription for, and it's far and away the worst app on my phone.
