Skitch - Snap. Mark up. Share.
Open the Mac App Store to buy and download apps.
See something that sparks an idea? Use Skitch to snap it, mark it up, and send it on in an instant. Your bold ideas stand out even brighter with Skitch.
People everywhere use Skitch to help them visually share their thoughts with others. Here are a few ways you can use it, too:
Mark up photos of silly, cool, or inspiring things you see and share them via social, email, SMS, and more.
Annotate photos of your backyard to plan out your vegetable garden.
Share a diagram of the earth’s layers and have students label it with you
Capture a map, mark it up, and share it with your friends to show them where you'll be.
Open a PDF and highlight changes to skip the lengthy, confusing email chains and give clear feedback.
Skitch’s PDF Markup feature requires an Evernote Premium account.
An Evernote account is required to save to Evernote. All other capturing, mark up and saving and sharing functions are free and do not require an Evernote account.
What's New in Version 2.7.6
Hotfix for sharing and several miscellaneous bugs
Use to be great, now just okay
Prior to the Evernote aquisition, Skitch was a great app, make that ‘killer’ app, the go-to integrated screen capture and annotation solution for many Mac users. Then along came Evernote.
The first iterations of the post-Evernote aquisition were horrendous. Fortunately an Evernote branded version of the earlier 1.x release was still available from the Skitch app’s archive page. Since then, link to the version archive page has been removed and the killer features - like drop-shadows, borders, layer/element tranparency, et al - have been dropped and disregarded seemingly in favor of binding this to the Evernote ecosystem and other endeavors, like the ubiqiotous and unremarkable iPhone app. In the Evernote user forums, the moderators have been claiming that reintroducing some of these features is on their ‘backlog’ list for years, but apparently other more poorly considered vapid and frivolous features have indefinitely taken priority.
The Skitchernote team seems to have become ambivalent to what made Skitch a great and killer app and brand in the first place. From what I have read, this app seems to have become a buggy footnote in the Ever-reaching Evernote ecosystem. All that being said, I will still use it for quick crosshair cropped screen grabs, it is just a shame that this product has been allowed to slide so far from what it once was.
Useful. Here’s how it could be better...
Works as advertised. Developer’s here is how I use Skitch, and an overview of what’s missing.
For Skitch to be increasingly useful for user’s simplest needs, it’s missing a few key features. The thing I like and need and Skitch offers, is the ability to maintain the position of the selection region over the course of multiple screenshots (until the user moves it). What would make Skitch even more useful? In a scenario when a user (book author, tutorial author, etc.), needs to grab many sequential captures, in a hurry, having the option to auto-save and not pop-up the annotation screen is a MUST. Evernote please add (1) an app preference option to (a) auto-save (b) set directory (c) append with preferred prefix/suffix/number (d) do not pop-up the annotation screen. Thank you.
good screen shot
Good basic screen shot program. Like that I can do full screen or part. To make it even better though, suggest adding an option to allow “auto copy to clipboard”. checked help section & didn’t see any way to change this myself. Right now I have to take a screen shot. go to edit, select copy. go to document & paste. Would be great to go straight to the document & just paste :) Save all of us some steps & make it have the option to autocopy to the clipboard, please :) would give it 5 stars if it allowed options for autocopy without having to go to edit to save it first.
