Sleep cycle is continuously rated as the best smart alarm clock and is the world’s most used intelligent alarm clock.
* Our patented technology monitors your sleep movements using sound or vibration analysis.
* Sleep Cycle then finds the optimal time to wake you up during a 30 minute window that ends at your set alarm time.
* Recommended placement: Near the bed or on the floor.
As you sleep you go through different phases, ranging from deep sleep to light sleep. The phase you are in when your alarm goes off is critical for how tired you will feel when you wake up.
Since you move differently in bed during the different phases, Sleep Cycle can use the microphone or accelerometer in your iPhone to monitor your movements and determine which sleep phase you are in.
Sleep Cycle wakes you when you are in your lightest sleep phase.

The Secret to Waking up on Time
I think I have found the perfect combination of alarm clocks. I always set Sleep Cycle to be my first alarm, and another app called SpinMe Alarm Clock as my backup. Sleep Cycle usually wakes me up in my optimal wake up time, but sometimes it just isn’t enough for me and I’ll either snooze through it or turn it off and go back to bed. If Sleep Cycle fails to wake me up, my backup alarm SpinMe will start blaring which can only be turned off if I get out of bed and spin around twice before it finally shuts off! Crazy but it works and I haven’t been late to work since I started doing this. And no you can't just spin the phone around in your hand!
Sleep Cycle really does help in waking you up during your light sleep. I can feel it working most mornings. And I have studied the science behind sleep so I can attest that the premise of this app isn’t merely a placebo, but something that has actually been proven. However the problem that this alarm clock doesn’t solve is that sometimes (especially on nights where you get very little sleep), it can be really easy to ignore your alarm clock and really hard to wake up. That’s where SpinMe Alarm comes in, an alarm clock that is impossible to ignore and forces you awake. I highly recommend using these 2 alarms together. Best few dollars I’ve ever spent!!
Lowball move by the developers.
This app just became limited to only the alarm clock feature, unless you now pay a monthly premium membership for all of the other features.
This would be understandble and reasonable (companies have to make money and sometimes adapt to continue developing their product), except for a few things:
1) I *paid* for this app and the features that came with it. If they want to make more money, they can develop new features that are worth the premium upgrade, instead of taking back what I already paid for.
2) They didn't actually announce any of this. They just quietly did it and now try to get you to purchase premium "at a specially discounted price" without explaining anything at all, making this even more of a lowball move.
3) If you read some of the reviews that were just posted today, right after they put this change into affect, I think it's pretty plain to see the fake 5 star reviews they posted for themselves. Take "AmbrewM" for example: "This is an amazing app! Download it today!"
I recall Microsoft recently greatly reducing how much storage it offered on One Drive unless you started paying a premium for it, a similar situation. The difference was that they announced it up front and honestly, explaining the situation and reasons and apologizing. The Sleep Cycle developers did the opposite and completely lost my trust.
Bad dream come true
I got this app free from Starbucks which is just bad marketing. Within a few months I was off caffeine entirely. This app wakes me up gently from a light sleep about 4 days a week. The other 3 I'm either sleeping in late or waking up horribly hung over. Is there an app for that??
Sleep Cycle offers more data than I've ever needed to better understand my personal nighttime habits. I don't own a fitbit so most of the newly added stuff is pretty useless to me.
I hope that the developers of Sleep Cycle will offer a completely basic and free "alarm clock" version.
Being asked to pay for what you have been using for free all along is not surprising but still intolerable to a penny-pinching cheapskate like me. I'm going to keep using the app for the duration of the free trial but I won't pay for something that was free even if it costs less than one Starbucks coffee for a whole month just on principle.
Getting 3 stars because I really can't rate it any worse because it is really that good but I hate feeling like I got a raw deal.
