Really Like the Slingbox System
I've got the old Slingbox Solo and the iPad and iPhone apps. All work very good and fairly simple to setup.
Would have given 5 stars except for three small reasons.
First both apps are a bit pricey but they both work great! Especially when we are on the road, watching a game, at a hotel or even when using it around the house as a portable TV. With the iPad air it's even better. I even watch it in bed late at night with the headphones on so I don't disturb my wife.
Second small problem is the slight lag in the remote control. I get the reasons why just it's a little hard until you get used to it.
Third is the guest user account that is a bit hard to setup especially if you have multiple friends.
Other than these thing I really like the freedom the whole system brings!
Still would like that old box that connects a remote TV direct but now with the Apple TV and and iPhone or iPad I can easily show the remote screen on any HDTV.
So far so good
All in all, a huge improvement over earlier models... I have the 500 and only decided to give Slingbox another try when it was announced it was finally compatible with AT&T Uverse. I hesitated because the setup with earlier models had left such a bad taste in my mouth, but this was remarkably easy, and I was streaming in a matter of minutes.
There does seem to be a glitch with the startup mode; I have it set to launch on Auto mode, whether I'm on cellular or wifi, and it always launches on SQ. it's no great problem, I simply switch it over, but it is not working properly, so worth a mention...
The video quality overall is terrific, and I've not had really anything but good things to say about it. Demonstrated it on my iPhone 5 with a fairly weak cell signal to a friend the other day, and he immediately wrote down the information and was set to get one too!
Again, a quantum leap from earlier models.
I have used my Solo for about 5 years now. With the improvement in internet speeds, IPads, iPhones and Apple TV it has become even more useful. I used to use it when traveling but now I use it around the house all the time. I get a reasonably good picture and sound. For the $129 I paid for it back in about 2009 I have received a good value. There are however, three areas that prevent me from giving it five stars:
1 - the price of the App is steep, especially when you consider that you have to buy it twice. Once for the iPad and then again if you want it on the iPhone.
2 - when mirroring from my iPhone to Apple TV, the aspect ratio has to be set before mirroring. Once it is mirroring on the Apple TV the aspect adjustment does not work.
3 - it would be nice if there was a way more than one user could watch at the same time.
