Solar Blaster is a 3D First Person Shooter set in space.
An endless assault of enemies are coming at you, you have 3 weapons to defend your mother-ship. Can you survive the onslaught?
Your scores and country are ranked on the internet. Fight the good fight, challenge your friends to beat your score, and honor your country by getting the highest possible score.
Tip: Sound is linked to your phone's built in volume and vibration settings. To ensure the full experience make sure your phone is not on vibration mode, or if you want to play the game silently turn your phone's vibrate mode ON to mute the game sounds.
Fun, but needs to be faster!
Very Star Wars-like, but in a simple context, almost too simple. It would be great to be able to fly around more than just in a single course, such as if in a true space fighter. The multiple targets could be scattered about and possibly hiding behind obstacles that we must manuever about to miss crashing into and exploding into a fireball (yes, I know, no oxygen in space). At the very least, it would be nice to have the aiming reticle be active in such a way that you can tell when you are closing into the "sweet spot" that would signal a fatal hit with one shot. Lastly, I would suggest that the high scores screen come up at the end of the game, and allow for your score to be seen on your heads-up display so that we can choose then to be added. Beyond these suggestions, I very much like the fluid feel, and sound effects, although it would be great to have the weapons controls be more responsive on tapping. Keep it up, and make it better. (And yes, I did buy it and well worth the buck for some mental down time fun.)
Great idea, but not too much depth.
The idea of a FPS on the iPhone awesome and this game really shows how possible it is. The gameplay consists of flying through space and shooting at cubes and spheres to destroy them using three types of guns. You control your view using the Accelerometer and fire using the touch screen. The game does not have a story or really much depth to it, but for $1, it really is worth the money. You can upload your scores to online leader boards, which extends the replay value. Overall, I wish to see this idea developed into a full-fledged game; however, till then, this "tech demo" will hold you over. I highly recommend it!
first impressions are that its not bad for $1. it definitely shows that the ipod touch can do FPS pretty well. I actually think its pretty fun for a few minutes at a time. it controls well and looks good. It would be nice if there were more types of enemies. definitely a start of something. Hopefully they will work on adding more to it or use it as a building block for future FPSs. I think the ipod touch is the perfect platform for FPS's. Lets hope this is the start of something!!
