Sparkle shines above Everweb and Sandvox for me.
I have used iweb, Everweb and Sandbox over the years, until yesterday. Both Everweb and Sandvox allow ftp upload from their programs, or file save. I disliked having to first log onto their site in order to then upload to my server. I like ‘standalone’ to mean just that. Everweb allowed for basic/beginner creativity. Sandvox however has limited/limiting templates with not much option for free design.
Sparkle has given me freedom to wysiwyg in creating my webpage and it’s similarity to ‘Pages’ has helped me to get started immediately. I did however have to download ‘filezilla’ in order to upload my Sparkle website files to my server. No biggee, bacause I like the standalone feeling not having the design app require a login to their site before I proceed to login/upload to my server. Also, I found the Sparkle photo gallery to be much better than Everweb. I can place full resolution photos in my Sparkle photo galleries and the app displays them perfectly on my mac, iphone and iPad. I’m really liking their gallery/slideshow much better. No hiccups, no degradation. If you can make a document in ‘pages’, you can make a website in Sparkle. Hope this helps.
Almost exactly what I was looking for
I’m an independant software developer and I occasionally have to make small websites for my products, but I hate working with html. I used to use iWeb, but I can’t get it to work anymore, so I was looking for something that would be just as easy to use. This is the best I’ve seen. It works really well, and can produce great results with very little effort.
It would be nice if it had a built in FTP and SFTP client and could sync a website by only uploading what has changed. If would also be nice if it automatically copied image assets to a project folder. I wasn’t able to get the web-fonts feature to work in all browsers. I wasn’t able to easily link to a pdf file that would become part of the export.
This website building program is the one I was looking for years. Easy to navigate, no HTML codes necessary, drag and drop and everything is clean and slick. Only wish they had more video format support but other than that I recommend this to anybody who wants to build a website on their own.
