What's New in Version 3.6.1

- 3.6.1
Bug squishin'

If you rely on Speedtest to diagnose connectivity issues and keep your Internet service provider and carriers honest, we’d be thrilled if you would leave us some feedback in the App Store. Thanks and happy testing!

- 3.6
Let’s cut right to the chase: iPhone 6/6+ support, including landscape on the 6+. Hooray!

Got speed to spare? We also added the ability to adjust the gauge increments in the settings tab. This is just a visual enhancement, of course, with no effect on the test itself. Your final results will be the same regardless of chosen increment.

We’ve also made some pretty significant improvements to performance, ad removal, and bug fixes. Oh, and did we mention iPhone 6/6+ support! Woo!

In real browsing, am not seeing the same proportional results

Speed test results appear to reflect the download speed for downloading huge files.

However, in real life browsing a 5x speed test result does not get even a 2x faster page load.

Whatever the reason for that is, we need a new speedtest for real life browsing too.

Admittedly some of the result could be due to the device's speed in rendering a page, but lot of times I think it is the carrier's Domain Name Server that is really slow in translating the Names to Internet addresses and a real life browser page has a slew of http references that all get channelled to the default DNS which for most users is set by the Internet service provider to be one of their own servers.

Have tried Google's DNS too when my carrier (Comcast) was really slow. Don't know if Comcast does maintenance around mid-night PT, but that is when it really slows down a lot and pings to Comcast DNS don't get returned.

Hence, suggesting add a DNS test to your test results and let users benchmark all publicly available DNS to find the best one.

Be careful with data overages!

I have used this app for some time and even paid to get rid of ads. It does what it advertises very well in letting you know how fast your carrier speed is. However, in only 6 days of constant use it made me go over my 4.5gb data cap. What happened was I had a 6s plus which appeared to have a bad antenna so I exchanged it for another (sim-free as previous). I then proceeded to test at various parts of my daily commute, home and work. I received a text from carrier today informing me that I had gone over my 4.5gb cap ( in six days!). I checked settings and found this app had used 6.5gb. Luckily my carrier gave me another 4.5 go at no additional charge. I then went ahead and deleted this app. Beware!

It does collect personal info, does it share it?

After using this app for some time, I can say that it works well enough to earn 5 stars except for the advertising. Since acquiring my iPhone and purchased several apps, the spam that I receive has trippled. Now I am a "superstitious" person and I refuse to believe that this extra spam is innocent.
Data sharing is big business. My privacy is bigger. The apps privacy statements concerning privacy clearly state what the apps may collect "for " their purpose. Their words are their words. I cannot say that anyone has deliberately used any data found on any device. It be safe and certain, I have deleted several apps as well as this one. Mobile Speed Test
