SPlayerX is a very versatile and fast media player for Mac OS X if you like the features of VLC but dislike the outdated UI, SPlayerX is a good alternative.
Before I used to use MPlayerX (Top of the chart player on the Mac App Store) and I found it to be too buggy so transitioning to this player was easy and smooth. I would like there to be more technical features and the ability to adjust the postion of the subtitles so I’ll give a 4 star rating.

Poor Media Player

I was looking for a player that can play MKV and AVi and VLC and MplayerX do not work proper for my MBPR so I give this a try, here is some tought of it.
Lacks features such as buttons for forward and backward, not support network video play, such as steam video from on computer to another. Everytime try to move video forward it will skip to next clip. But play file local works great. Over all, not that great.

Overall great player

I have been using this app through several versions. It does what’s promised, responds well and has no major flaws. An improvement would be to display the file name as an option or at least on startup.
