Game of War - Reskinned

I don’t write many reviews, but I like Star Trek and this game does the franchise a disservice.

Initially the game is pretty cool, nice mission layout, exciting to build your ship and base up quickly, but then it turns into the mundane click-build timer game that you saw in another war game from a few years ago. The storyline keeps you going with the missions, but they feel the same after awhile and you end up doing them just to advance the story and get free resources. You will eventually ask yourself, “This game feels like another game I’ve played before, what is it?” It’s Game of War, almost to a ‘T’. Once I came to that realization I dumped the game. What’s worse about this game is there is no way to protect yourself if you’re mining or above level 10 and you’re not at your base (and even that goes away after level 15). The game has a lot of potential, but too much is broken and the developers need to steer away from the cash-grab mentality. Don’t waste any money on this game, glad I didn’t.

Note to the developers, if you make a good product players will pay you for it. Don’t throw gimmicks in a game, you cheapen it and it leaves a bad taste in one’s mouth.

Fun but...

Fun but still needs work. It is an addicting game that has a fun community. There are quite a few bugs that need to be worked out. Sometimes when you click on a planet the pop up window with info and travel info closes immediately so you can’t travel till you reset. Sometimes your ships get stuck in travel loops and you can’t control them till you reset. You aren’t supposed to attack people till level 10 but if they are on a mining spot it’s open season. I really don’t like that you can’t zoom out fully to see the full system or base. The touch sensitivity is great for the base and galaxy buy you need to swipe 20 times just to get across a small system. Again, you can’t zoom out fully to see the system so you’re left swiping 50 times to see if there is a mission waypoint in the system. The quick “go” button for build/upgrade only brings you to one building which is usually not the building you want to upgrade. Would like to see some advanced options for sensitivity control and a music fader.

Hello ironHill3,

Thanks for all the quality feedback. We are working hard to identify and fix exactly the type of bugs you are referring to. Our promise to you is to keep resolving bugs and working on balance issues until everyone is having as much fun as we had making this game. Thank you for playing.

Meh...

This game is too linear. Spending about a week on it, I find it to be too simplistic. Your moves are too proscribed/dictated by the tasks that must be done or else you can not progress. All the missions are basically the same, all of the levels (solar systems) are essentially the same, and resources are limited. To get at the limited resources you have to wait for higher level players to leave. There is no room for skill to out maneuver more others, you simply have to play longer and do more quests then you can step on those who haven’t played as long. Payouts for missions are enough to keep you motivated, but there is no way to freely spend your earnings. Judging from how much time I put in, I’m guessing I wouldn’t be flying a recognizable Star Trek vessel for months. Nice to incorporate known characters, but unless you follow the missions or pay money there’s one way to gain them experience. Definitely a game for people who like to check in on games compulsively. Lastly the game tends to get buggy/laggy after a while and needs to be restarted each time.

Hi Extra Points,

We appreciate your thoughts and want you to know that we realize our genre is not for everyone. This is a base building game where you can go out and do missions and PVP. You are right that the more you play the better you are set to defend or attack. Balance in a game like this takes time to perfect. We want players to move through content but not so fast that they run out of things to do. As for the bugs, we are working every day to fix these. We have resolved over 1K to date and won't stop until we exterminate them all. Thanks for playing.
