A nice Star Trek game that holds up well!
I am always skeptical about mobile games based on licensed franchises. Star Trek in particular, as it is one of my favorite series amongst others. However, despite having some irritatingly long timers and some rather eyebrow-raising in-game purchases (usefulness not price-related for once), I find that Trexels is a fun, if not sometimes confusing game to play.
The storyline is creative, nothing feels out of place or "for the sake of reference", and even the in-app purchases aren't ludicrously expensive nor are they required to fully enjoy the app. Resource collecting is, of course, a heavy focus for the game but not to its detriment. Even the little puzzles and quick-tapping segments feel responsive and fitting.
Overall, aside from having to play a very long waiting game, the app is ultimately a fun time sink that doesn't claw for your attention with annoying notifications or rip through your wallet to provide entertainment.
Good start, but flawed and abandoned by developer
It's definitely cute and a well designed game, but the further you progress the more paywalls you encounter. I don't mind paying, but expect it. "Weekly events" don't actually exist, and all the "coming soon" labels from months ago are still there. To me the biggest flaws are in the UI. I have to mute the device when it first starts because you can't turn off the long and loud intro, and the game audio controls don't affect it. And playing it seems to mess up audio apps: podcast playback, music, the alarm clock (appears to be something memory related). Rebooting the phone fixes the problem. Plus if you receive a text, call, or notification during a fleet battle, you automatically loose the battle. So I can play this -OR- have a functioning phone? No contest. It's frustrating as so much work has gone into this already, and it could be improved with just some bug fixes and finishing the "coming soon" content.
Slow and steady wins the race
I love this game.
Plenty of trek to trek through.
It can be played without putting $$$ into it. I could not help but buy something though, it was worth it to contribute. Lots of repetitive gameplay and certain unfair AI levels make it more difficult to esrly. You have to train you crew to 300 on everything by 5-6 galaxy exploration when there are what 14-15 to explore. If you wish to diversify your crew amongst all the years and shows with you favorites is totally doable. Unfortunately they have not mapped out all the combat bonuses for them so it makes no sense to choose them over other characters with defined bonuses that make more sense to choose than a "coming soon" like statement. Fun game, love star trek and the technology that has been created because of it in our world.
Thanks for solid and entertaining game.
