Meh locations and stealth price increase

I sort of lucked out in that I live in a place that has two locations nearby. For most of LA that’s not the case. So Brewpass is a decent service that saves me some cash as long as I go before work.

In the last month they increased their prices by 25% without giving warning or the option to cancel before getting charged.

That’s some one star garbage right there.

I originally left a more balanced review. However, I have two hard rules with apps: (1) If AT. ANY. POINT, it fails more than 10% of the time, or (2) it actively wastes my time through its shortcomings, then it automatically gets one star. No exceptions.

Brewpass thus fails. It worked once and then the second time did not. Fifty percent failure (remember: at ANY point), one star.

And in its failure, it broke rule two. The transaction failed and an ominous alert of “stripecarderror” appeared. Now if I see the word “card” when a transaction won’t go through, I call my bank immediately. Thus, Brewpass’s awful product wasted my time.

It’s a two-time loser.

Good idea with a dicey app

I've been subscribed for four months or so and I like the service -- I was already getting coffee at the cafe by my work regularly and paying on a monthly basis took a lot of the angst out of it if nothing else. But man, for an app based business they do have a lot of app problems. For a long time there the app was so slow to load it was making me feel like I was actually hurting my cafe using it since I was constantly holding up the line (plus they comped me once or twice when the app refused to cooperate). Every once in a while it just won't open, or gives me a weird error message, or tells me I've used my offer for the day although I haven't. Today it sent me two notifications about an update, the app won't open beyond the launch screen, and there's no update in the Apple Store so I guess I'm just waiting for it to get fixed, coffeeless. So yeah, the app works most days but it generally feels really rickety and when it malfunctions, which is not infrequently, it really subtracts from the value of the subscription. I'm a fan of the service but not of wondering whether my app is going to work today.
