Best sudoku of all the versions avail
I've tried a lot of versions of this game and this one has the most convenient features if all of them, hands down. It has a single button to toggle between placing numbers as options vs sure things. And when you put numbers in as options, it places them in the areas if the box where numbers go on keypads, e.g. 1 is always top left corner, 9 is bottom right corner, etc. Many other sudoku versions just put the options in as the order you put them in-- which is not nearly as organized and slows your elimination process down later. Also, some Sudoku versions use dots instead of the actual numbers when you put options in, which is also not as clear and slows you down. And finally, it does some if the grunt work for you: when you enter a for-sure number, it takes away that number from all the cells that listed it as an option in that row and column. For example, if you deduce that a particular cell must be a 2 and you write the big number 2 in it, the game automatically eliminates the number 2 from your list of options in other cells in that row or column. For seasoned sudoku players, this takes away a lot if the painstaking busy work that isn't part of the fun of sudoku, since it has nothing to do with deductive reasoning. All in all, an awesome version of the game, the best there is.
Playing with this app is loads of fun. I consider myself to be a sudoku aficionado. I have been playing for over 7 years so I've done the good, the bad and the ugly.
There are two things that prevented me from giving this app a five star rating. The first is that on the expert level, occasionally you reach a point where there is no definite right or wrong. You randomly insert one of the possible numbers, everything else falls in line and the puzzle is solved. The second is that for a long time the app was linked to an online statistics section that told me how I compared to other players. That no longer is available and there is no guidance to find out If the feature was removed or if I need to do something to reinstate it.
This game's user friendly interface made improving my capability less stressful. When you enjoy a game that really makes your head hurt, something is either right about the game or wrong about your head! I like the highlight features of each number, do not care much for the "notes" feature and I appreciate the "undo" button immensely - better than a pencil with an eraser. I've yet to finish an expert puzzle but could barely complete an easy puzzle when I first began playing. Finally, when you've played so much you start dreaming in Sudoku, it's time, my friend, to try something else.
