Shows some info, eventually
This app's job is to show stats on solar production. It does only a very modest job of this. Understand that the app interface differs a lot depending on the device. We use it mostly on the iPhone. (On iPad, it has the same drawbacks as on the phone plus it puts the lifetime production on a separate screen so you can't see all the relevant info at once. On a browser on the Mac, it uses Flash. If you leave the browser window open, the app will crash the browser. Incompetent implementation.)
The app is very very slow. It leaves stale information sitting on the screen as if fresh and you can get faked out. Meanwhile the friend you were going to show it to has wandered off.
If only it had a button for "yesterday" so you could avoid the stupid date entry interface for what has to be the most common lookup besides the current status.
I was expecting a real application that would give access to the actual numerical data for download to a spreadsheet. Too bad.
By the way, SunPower is not giving you accurate production information. In spite of the two decimal places in the report, it is off (high) by about half a percent, an error which accumulates quickly.
Wish it was better. (Now it is!)
I am updating my previous review (below). After letting app moulder for over a year Sunpower has finally made it a priority and many of the issues below have been fixed. It is now a fairly nice looking, useful app that supports current iOS hardware and software. This is good. Thanks.
This app has major limitations:
-- No actual numbers in graphs (seriously?!?).
-- No way to find out any sort of useful data other than overall production and current production/usage. (e.g. production/usage over month-to-date, year-to-date, last month, date range, etc.)
-- Can't update data without relaunching the app.
-- Doesn't support multi tasking.
-- No iPad version.
-- No way to get what little actual data you can see out of the app (e.g. you can't copy your total production, etc.)
-- Lousy graphics, no retina display support.
SunPower Solar Monitoring App
Recent improvements to the App, like being able to swipe back through days, months or years to review older data and display it not only by graph but also numerical values was a big and welcome change. I feel the app is slow to gather new data or to update to current real time information and this is probably why there are only 4 Stars.
A refresh request should provide an update to the instantaneous values that currently exist. Perhaps some of this is due to my own network, I am not sure. Continue to improve the app, please!
