*new! PureData patch for synthPond is available on the synthPond website. thanks to Chris Randall of Positron Records!*
synthPond is a relaxing spatial sequencer and generative audio toy inspired by the work of Toshio Iwai.
Unlike a normal sequencer where you place notes on a grid and a moving playhead plays them, in synthPond you place nodes in a field (pond).
Because the system is spatial, it's easily graspable and very intuitive, but also very deep. While it's easy for someone with no music knowledge to create a complex melody, synthpond is also suited for advanced musicians who are interested in generative musical composition.
Additionally, the audio generated can be placed in a 3D space, occurring around the listener coming from the relative positions of each node. This also allows for spatial features like orbiting to create a more generative composition.
More information (and a video tutorial) is available at:
synthPond requires headphones, without them you may hear distorted or limited audio.
synthPond was built with mobileFrameworks, an iPhone related c++ library for artists
What's New in Version 2.6
- added file system access for transferring ponds from one device to another. ( Copy all the files out of synthpond in the apps section of your device in itunes and place them onto your receiving device the same way )
Not enough melodic possibilities, bad slowdown and the ripples are too noticeable.
A good start, but pales in comparison to BLOOM.
I do love the options though, and the save feature. Would love to see a midi export function somehow, or a DAW link, either is fine.
I love the idea and design of this app. So many aural possibilities! Intuitive interface.
listener position based panning!!!! yay.
