Tabata Trainer is a easy to use HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) app based on the Tabata method. The app is perfectly suited for anyone looking for a new, fast and effective training routine.

Create your own workouts or pick one of the preloaded workouts and get started.

About the Tabata method:
The standard tabata method consists of eight cycles where you perform 20 seconds of intense exercise followed by 10 seconds of rest. You can pick any exercise you like (i.e push-ups/squats/lunges). After four minutes you are done.

All routines can be performed whenever you want and wherever you want. There is no need for expensive equipment or gym memberships. All you need is your body and what you can find around the house.

Please note:
To listen to music while using the app just start your favourite music app, select your music and then switch to Tabata Trainer and you are ready to go (make sure the mute switch is not activated).

Great app but needs scoring ability


Can you add a function that would allow the user to enter a score (the number of reps completed in your lowest scored round) during the 8 sets of each movement. Once the Tabata is completed, the app would total your scores (the sum of the lowest rep round for each movement) to give you a total score. This would allow the user to compete against himself - trying to increase score for the same Tabata over time. Example: if the minimum reps I can complete during my 8 sets of push-ups is 12, them my score for push-ups would be 12. Then for air squats, for example, the minimum number I completed during the 8 rounds is 20, then my air squat score is 20. My total score for this abbreviated Tabata would be 12+20=32. The next time I do this workout I could look Back at the history and try to increase my score. I've never seen this on an app, but thought it would be a good addition. I would think the calculator function could be incorporated to accomplish this.

New version is SOLID/SIMPLE. Great Tabata trainer.

I updated to the newest version (you can see I gave a past version a low rating). The new version is graphically easy to track, intuitive, customizable as far as excercises and number of sets, and lets you program quickly and get down to working out. I was pleasantly surprised that the developer emailed me back immediately about my past concerns, addressed them in the update, and notified me they'd been fixed. I'd anticipate strong customer service going forward.

Like that you can use this app while playing your own choice of music. Also, great that you can customize your routines and add exercises. Would like stop and go voice markers at each cycle, but have been told that is on its way! One that is here, I will rank it as a 5! The ability to vary the lengths of the tabatas would be nice to have some day, too. But for the straight up 20/10 tabatas, this was the best I have found.
