Don't you wish you had a person helping time you with a stopwatch? Talking Timer is just that, a timer that talks to you - that is, it uses voice prompts to let you know its status. The voice prompts can even be heard over your iPod music - just start your music then start Talking Timer.
The voice prompt intervals are flexible and easily customizable.
Talking Timer was originally designed as an aid for exercising, but initial testers started using it for all sorts of things. Many people found it useful in the kitchen because they could keep tabs on the timer without having to stop what they were doing to pick up their iPod.
What's New in Version 1.8
Fix to bug that caused timer to get stuck when editing settings while timer is running.
Won't run with SCREEN OFF/ Buggy App
Used to be an effective audible countdown/countup device until it disallowed operation with screen OFF. Historically BUGGY performance since app was initially released...and it's not getting any better, but WORSE!
BUG ISSUES seem irrelevant since the app presently won't run behind the scenes; however, historically, app's problems, though relatively minor/annoying in scale, included the following:
--Stability issues with the "TIMES UP" audible feature will cause the app to CONTINUOUSLY REPEAT "Ti-Ti-Ti-TiTi-Ti-Ti-TiTi-Ti-Ti-Ti...." whether the "Repeat Times Up" toggle is active "ON" --- or NOT!
--Stability issues render the "RESET" and/or the "START/STOP" BUTTON UNRESPONSIVE. (At this point, the ONLY effective means of resetting the app is to TURN OFF THE iPod and THEN re-start the application.)
Despite instability issues, the application USED TO RUN IN THE BACKGROUND (with iTunes running) and it would EFFECTIVELY ANNOUNCE THE timer according to a WIDE VARIETY OF USEFUL ANNOUNCEMENT SETTINGS....SO WHAT HAPPENED, 7ZILLION???!
RECOMMENDATIONS a) include adjustable, announcement VOLUME control and b) add OPTIONAL VOICES to the sole male voice announcement
COMPARE TO: "Talking Clock + Timer" APP (with actual local CLOCK TIME announcements in ADDITION TO counter functions)
None Talking Timer
Only $.99 but it a waste of money. What ever your screen lock setting is the voice prompts will end when the screen locks. So if you set the program to voice prompt every 5 minutes but your screen locks after 3 minutes then you will never hear any prompts. I could give you more examples but I think you get the point. If they fix that problem then I could see giving it 4 or 5 stars.
great if you added this feature
I like the feature where you can repeat counting seconds in intervals, but it would be awesome if I could set the seconds to repeat AND stop them at a specific number of times. i.e. 4 second intervals X 12 repititions. Then I would give it 5 stars
