what, like it's hard?
I recently rediscovered Temple Run after years away. In the days of Temple Run 1, I was good at this game. I’m not anymore. I jumped back in with Blazing Sands (I don’t play Sky Summit because I don’t like heights. Yes, I KNOW I can’t fall off a lot of the course, my blood pressure still soars) which I struggled with but enjoyed.
Access to Blazing Sands recently expired [unless you buy it for 500 gems] to make way for Lost Jungle. The creators of this game really want you to admire the gorgeous scenery they’ve developed for Lost Jungle. I know this because there is literally nothing else to do. Sometimes I have to jump. There are hardly any blockades or tricky parts. I beat my high score the first time I played it. I’m embarrassed when I die in this course.
There is one thing Lost Jungle does have: coins. There are so many coins on the course and they are so easy to amass that it’s basically like playing Temple Run Junior. I imagine this kind of scenario is what people back in the days of the California gold rush thought they were getting into; what is also called a cruel irony. I used to be a coin hoarder because I wanted to max out my abilities, but now that I’ve polished that off, I’m a gem hoarder, because I want to buy back access to Blazing Sands. 248 to go.
I don't want repeat what everyone else has to say. It's a great game, blah blah blah, fun to play, blah blah blah, and really addictive. I only have one issue. The boost/run power up is pointless because the monster speeds up right along with you. You trip once, the monster is in your tail. Trip twice and the monster gets you, ending your run. It doesn't matter how many boosts you've used, two consecutive trips will end your run. If you happen to grab a boost while the monster is in view, you can see him speed up right along with you. Kind of pointless I think. I was on a 20,000 meter run, hadn't tripped once, hit the boost power up multiple times, then I trip up once and he's right on my tail. So I've taken my rating down from 5 to 4. I think this feature should really be given a once over.
Fun but not without flaws
The game itself is simple and straightforward but fun and addictive. If you've played an endless runner you know what to expect. The problems I have it with it are a) the advertisements are truly unnerving. I understand it's a free app but having to sit through a 45 second commercial after every other run is ridiculous. Not once has any of their ads made me want to try what they were selling. Definite overkill. The other problem is b) new maps take waaaaayy too many gems to unlock. Who can earn 500 gems over the course of their playtime with a game to not get bored enough in the process and move onto something else? Sure, you can take a shortcut and buy the gems via store, at a rate of like 250 gems for 20 bucks, meaning I have to spend 40 bucks to unlock a new level. One level. Keep dreaming, Imangi.
