If you are a fan of Professor Layton then you will love this game. Lots of great puzzles, some hard, some easy. The storyline isn't as good as Professor Layton but the puzzles are just as good. So happy I discovered this game!
Good, wish it were longer
Somewhere in the middle
It's hard to penalize this game since I, overall, enjoyed it and purchased the full game. It's also hard to give it a full rating with all the rough edges.
What they did well at was gathering a lot of puzzles and keeping the focus on those puzzles. These are good.
However, there are a number of puzzles where the prompt/question is downright confusing and unclear. Some puzzles where it is very difficult to put in your answer, so much so that you think you are on the wrong track. There is at least one where the selected answer is actually wrong (the four cubes puzzle - there is no right answer). At times the story gets choppy, and twice I inferred there was supposed to be some kind of conversation or cut scene where nothing actually happened, I just jumped to another location very confused.
Also, toward the end, it seems like they stopped trying. The prompts for the puzzles get more confusing, the puzzles are increasingly disconnected with what is actually happening in on screen (though the game keeps insisting that the two are logically connected), and the "tasks" are roughly programmed minigames that detract rather than add. Once you get to the "bonus puzzles" at the end of the game, you see it's really the garbage bin of puzzles that didn't make it in - a few great ones and a few really odd ones, or ones with multiple right answers but you have to keep guessing until you find the RIGHT right answer.
All in all, this far exceeds a game like Jacob Jones - it lacks the polish but keeps the focus on good puzzles. A game like Puzzle Agent is superior, having the polish, puzzles, and story in a coherent package. This is somewhere in between. I hands down recommend it for a puzzle lover, but I can't shake me wishing that they put a little more thought/effort into the later chapters of the game and got a little more feedback on what wasn't working, before they published.
