Intellectually Stimulating & Beautifully Executed

The puzzles in this game are well thought out, with the use of the magic lens adding a refreshing dimension not found in other games in this genre. Hints are available if you get stuck, however I did not end up using any at all. Some puzzles are obviously more challenging than others, but none were so frustrating as to distract from the overall enjoyment of the game. I consider myself very experienced and good at this type of game, and I would say the level of difficulty is easy to moderate.

The graphics in this game are stunning and the animation sequences are impressive. The audio is not so much a music soundtrack, but more like ambient sounds that add quite a bit to the overall experience. The game draws you in completely and creates a beautifully immersive gaming experience. Add to this an easy and intuitive interface and you have the makings of an excellent game.

The only downside I can think of to this game is that I was able to complete it in just a few short hours, but I have to admit that during the entire play through I was fully engaged. There is something to be said for a game that grabs its audience from the moment the app is opened to its final conclusion. I highly recommend this game for players of all levels, and will absolutely be buying the sequel.

Immersive game with an epic feel, well worth the cost

I bought this game more or less on a whim, and within minutes was so hooked that I wound up playing the game well into the night. In the morning, I will regret this. My eyes ache and my arm is sore from holding the iPad. My carpal tunnel is back. But despite my exhaustion, I am elated. It is as though I ran a marathon, or binge-toured all the art museums in France.
I feel I just woke up from a very intense dream. This game is so immersive and develops such a world of its own that I feel as though I just experienced the app equivalent of reading Harry Potter or The Golden Compass.
The game requires extremely creative thinking, is very well constructed, and is gorgeous as well--not the best graphics I've ever seen, but still excellent for an app. It's well worth the money. I deducted the star because it is relatively short (I actually felt it was just the right length, because it enabled me to play it all in one very long sitting instead of having to play it piecemeal, but some will say it is too short) and because it gave me motion sickness, although that is probably my fault for getting so absorbed in the game that I stared at a screen for six solid hours.

Absorbing and Intuitive

"Point and Click" adventure games may be the most beneficial genre to jump from console to tablet. The problem I've had with a lot of them, though, is that many puzzles are in no ways intuitive, relying on unlikely jumps in logic. The Room has almost no such troubles. What at first seems mysterious and overwhelming soon becomes logical after a bit of exploration starting each new puzzle. There are a few moments that the hint feature becomes necessary, which is unfortunate, but the hint system also provides hints gradually, from pointing you in the right direction to explaining almost exactly what you should be doing. This is nice because it never feels like you have to let the game solve the puzzle for you. However, even this can be a problem at times becomes the game is otherwise entirely immersive and gorgeous. It invites you to a world and dares you to leave. Therefore, communicating with it as a game, as the hint system does, can briefly remove you from that experience. Overall, though, The Room is a marvel, and leaves you wanting more.
