Good TD but no documentation
I Love tower defense games and I enjoyed this one a great deal. The graphics are colorful and playful. A drawback to that is they have a fisher price feel. The units feel too big and sluggish due to the oversized graphics. It's a personal choice really. I'd like to see it take better advantage of the retina display.
The one con against the game that impacts all players is the lack of any documentation of any kind. I had to go back to the app store to find out who the developer was so I could try & find some information on the web. I still haven't found anything that tells me what each tower does and what it's strengths and weaknesses are. Nothing on the enemies either but that's not as important as knowing what your defenses are. In all, it has a very unfinished feel to it in terms of the GUI. Things that typically take place at the end of the development cycle are missing so I suspect the game was rushed to market.
That means there are some serious balancing issues that will frustrate many casual players.
It just means you have to be careful in your strategy...which is rather difficult doing knowing what's what.
Despite all this, it's a good game that just needs a little work. It's worth the price of admission for the challenge.
Unique elements make for a better challenge
There's a lot of good stuff going on here, with a few very interesting variations on the tower defense theme. The addition of spells add a sort of brawling strategy, and the intricate and customizable layouts are very well designed. I like that towers can only be upgraded after so many kills, keeps me on my toes instead of spamming maxed out towers. It gets very challenging quickly, but it's over much too early. I hope for more levels soon.
I wish there was a tutorial about the upgrades. I've been playing a while and I still don't know what exactly the difference is between the branches - it flies by in the heat of battle too quickly.
A top tower defense game
Very well done, pleasing graphics, excellent gameplay, nice branching upgrade structure from 3 basic types to 9 variants. Assuming they are going the in-app purchase route I would certainly pay for more levels, new tower types etc. One minor tweak needed - music volume control, music is good but too loud for my taste, would be nice to turn it down (to better hear the thumping and zapping of monsters being shredded by my brilliant strategy...)
