TROMBONE is a performance musical instrument for your iPhone. It plays, sounds, and operates like a real slide trombone.
Realistic controls * Real samples * Real chromatic control over more than two octaves * a flexible sound engine * a visual synthesizer * wireless MIDI control! * record your performances, and listen in the browser/email/embed them!
TROMBONE controls are based upon the principles of a real trombone. You can adjust this control to include breath, touch, and even tilt control.
It's a great way to learn how a trombone works, and it's expressive enough to be a real instrument for proficient musicians.
TROMBONE includes a unique sound engine that uses sound samples of real instruments -- including a Bb trombone, a trio of trombones playing in unison, and a trombone with a cup mute inserted.
TROMBONE also features the Visual Synth. Create your own sounds with our additive synthesizer, adding reverb, filters, and sculpting the overtones to explore the soundscape.
Control your music studio with TROMBONE -- full MIDI control is included via the musicofx midi tool [PC *and* Mac], free with TROMBONE! Control GarageBand, Reason, or Logic wirelessly -- a new performance MIDI controller!
Finally, you can record and share your TROMBONE performances. Upload, download, vote -- you can even listen to them in your browser, embed them in your blog, or send them to Mom in an email.

One of my students showed this app to me and I have since purchased and played with it, including testing the MIDI feature. I have to say it's amazing what you can get for 99 cents here -- if you can find the diamonds in the rough. As an instructor I have a rudimentary knowledge of the trombone but even just fooling around with this has helped me become more comfortable with the slide positions for notes. And I have to say it's enormously satisfying to drag that slide around and have it actually work. I'll definitely be checking out the other instruments by these folk. I do have some suggestions...(of course)... I wouldn't mind the whole thing to be zoomed in a bit so my fingers have a little more space. It's nice to see the trombone and its mouthpiece but there's a good 15% of the screen that could be used to slide space. The sound is good but at the very top range it has that fortissimo character which is a bit harsh for my ears. I suppose there could always be a gentler sample set as an addition, maybe in the next version!
SO this is how a trombone works. I like these games where you actually learn something. Youd be surprised at how popular it can be to just pass around as people try to play songs and figure it all out. enjoyed making sounds in the synth and playing along to songs in the itunes, too.
Hee, I'm a trombone player again
Sure it's been years since I got it out of storage and tooted around. But it's DeLiGhTful to have this iphone trombone play how I'd expect it to. Seriously I giggled when I did my first gliss. And I don't have to get my emboushure back into shape just to play a simple Bb scale.. Anyways, cool to have a working instrument on my iPhone
